***AUTHOR'S DISCLAIMER***
If you are hoping to find a YA book full of paranormal beasts, sex, or teens who act much more like under-aged adults, I suggest you save your money and do not buy this book. In fact don't buy any of The Jane Austen Diaries. However, if you are looking for a clean, lighthearted, sweet romance, where teens are good and happy and normal--like all of the teens I know (including my own!) then read on. You've come to the right place. :) --Jenni
Chloe Elizabeth Hart despises the conceited antics of the popular crowd, or more importantly, one very annoying self-possessed guy, Taylor Anderson, who seems determined to make her the president of his fan club! As if! Every girl in the whole city of Farmington, New Mexico, is in love with him, but he seems to be only interested in Chloe.
This modern high school adaptation of “Pride and Prejudice” is a battle of wits as Chloe desperately tries to remain the only girl who can avoid the inevitable—falling for Taylor.
Review
Chloe’s dislike for Taylor runs deep from the day he
signaled her out on the basketball court three years prior. This year is going
to be her year after her summer working with the theater group things are going
right or at least she hopes they will. When Taylor shows up in her art class he
seems intent on embarrassing her in front of all the school. While Chloe is avoiding
Taylor at every cost he’s proving that he’s not the bad guy she suspected. When
he ends up single due to a miscommunication on Chloe’s part and bails her out
of detention changing her opinion of him.
While Taylor continues to date the girls at school Chloe
starts dating a new older guy in town who she meets at her weekly four-wheeling
Wednesdays. When Taylor catches her on a date with Colin a boy her mom set her
up with he goes out of his way to draw attention to her. Assuming she’s
interested in Colin only to find out she’s not and interested in Blake. Taylor
knows Blake has a dark past and attempts to put an end to his dating Chloe but
things don't go according to plan. Will Chloe figure out why Taylor is fascinated
with her? Will they attend Morp?
Chloe is adorable a ballet dancer who has gone as far as
she can training wise but works as a ballet teacher of beginners. She also isn’t
the pretty popular girl but that doesn't stop her from drawing the eye of Mr.
Popular himself Taylor. I loved Taylor from the first chapter there was
something about him I couldn't help liking him. She has two best friends who
happen to find love also which I thought was great because a lot of times the
supporting characters are forgotten.
I decided to read this book for a challenge where enemy’s
become lovers. Well in this case fall in love since it’s a YA book. Pride &
Popularity is so stinking cute, it’s a fun clean romance that leaves the reader
giggling through the whole book. I love the characters they are easy to connect
with you can’t help falling in love with all of them even the supporting
characters. I haven’t read Pride & Prejudice yet but I keep saying one day
I will. The author has created a unique story weaving a modern day romance
based on a classic. I had a hard time putting Pride & Popularity it’s one
of those books you just get drawn into and lose all track of time. Plus the
story and characters are so cute I honestly loved the whole book it’s adorable.
I can’t wait to start the next one in the series. I loved the first one.
5 out of 5 stars
