Monster Romance

I'm a little bit obsessed with monster romance it's been one of my favorites tropes and I'm addicted to them.

This week I'm reading my bookclub book for Probably Smut (here) one of my favorite subscription boxes. One is the original cover and the one with my cat Luna is the special printed cover from Probably Smut.

Dark City Omega by Elizabeth Stephens

Synopsis

“You know I’m going to get away from you eventually.”
“Over my dead body.”
“Yes,” she said, blinking at him like he was an idiot. “Exactly.”

Echo knew that being caught by a ruling Berserker would mean becoming his pawn, a play thing to be used for her powers. That wouldn’t be her fate.

She’d rather run lost through the woods forever, dangerous though they may be.

But there’s something even more sinister than beasts and Berserkers lurking in the woods. Something both undead and deadly.

She can’t fight it alone. She’ll have to turn to the Berserker who’s caught the trail of her scent and won’t let it go. He says she’s his. She says never. He says forever.

Bones, bonds and hearts will be broken. Some battles can’t be won.

Run, Omega, run.

From the author of Lord of Population and Taken to Voraxia, step into a scorching, dark fantasy romance full of unforeseen twists, epic battles, omegas with magic and monsters who always get the girl. This is Gatamora.

Dark City Omega is a standalone, enemies to lovers, MF romance not suitable for young readers. Additional TWs and tropes can be found on Elizabeth's website.

Which cover do you like?

Monster Monday's

I've always been a big fan of monster movies and books.
Most of the manga that I read also have monsters too.
I was thinking it would be fun to spotlight monster, paranormal, aliens, prehistoric, and fantasy. The only catch is they can't be human.

Tremors
Released - 1990
Trailer

Cast
A very young Kevin Bacon, Fred Ward and MIchael Gross are the main guys, While Kevin Bacon is only in the original and Fred Ward the 1st sequel. Michael Gross does them all making him my favorite gun-toting character.

Synopsis
Natives of a small isolated town defend themselves against strange underground creatures which are killing them one by one.

Sequels

Tremors 2: Aftershocks
Tremors 3: Back to Perfection
Tremors 4: The Legend Begins
Tremors 5: Bloodlines

Thoughts
I just binge watched the entire series from start to finish one after another. My favorite is still the first movie but the others are just as cheesy classics. I own the first 4 on DVD which I think I need to upgrade to Bluray one of these days. I found the 5th on Netflix. In the 5th movie, they have evolved into these insane monsters. I had to share a video on Instagram of them pulling a shark move.  Check it out (Here) I love the series it's on of my favorite movies to watch when I'm craving monster movies. Highly recommend if you haven't watched them. They aren't super scary but I didn't let the kids watch them because of potential nightmares.

I'm always looking for new monsters to check out.
Feel free to suggest some as well as join in. Be sure to share if you do.

Godzilla
Synopsis
The world is beset by the appearance of monstrous creatures, but one of them may be the only one who can save humanity.

Thoughts

This week I watched Godzilla because it's one of my favorite movies. As a kid, I used to watch all the classic Godzilla movies over and over with my dad. I wasn't in love with the 90's Godzilla but it was good. The 2014 Godzilla is amazing, it's just what my giant radioactive lizard needed to revitalize his movie career. They did an awesome job creating a new story. They already have plans for the next and even a third I think.
I had every intention of seeing it on the big screen but my husband was deployed so I had to wait because I couldn't see it without him. When he came home we purchased it on amazon instant play so I can watch it over and over. It's one of those movies I can put on and listen to without even watching as I know the story by heart.

This week I watched Jaws the classic shark horror movie from 1975
Based on the book written by Peter Benchley

Jaws
Cast
Roy Scheider, Robert Shaw, Richard Dreyfuss
(Goodreads

Synopsis
A giant great white shark arrives on the shores of a New England beach resort and wreaks havoc with bloody attacks on swimmers, until a local sheriff teams up with a marine biologist and an old seafarer to hunt the monster down.

Thoughts
This is the movie that created my shark obsession. I love shark week it's always enjoyed learning everything about them.
So I haven't read the book yet but that's because I've seen the movie more times than I can count.

It's a cheesy shark movie but it was done in the 70's so you kind of have to expect that. I high recommend watching it one of those you must watch movies at least once. I spent half the movie in shock at how young Richard Dreyfuss was.

This week my husband and I watched a movie off our TBR list.

The Arrival
(Trailer
Sci Fi Drama Aliens
November 2016
Amy Adams, Jeremy Renner and Forest Whitaker

When mysterious spacecraft touch down across the globe, an elite team - led by expert linguist Louise Banks - is brought together to investigate. As mankind teeters on the verge of global war, Banks and the team race against time for answers - and to find them, she will take a chance that could threaten her life, and quite possibly humanity.

Thoughts
I've heard really good things about Arrival so when I saw it in the Redbox I decided it would be a perfect time to check it out. Plus it has one of my favorite actresses Amy Adams.

The concept is unique and interesting. We both found ourselves captivated by the movie. I found the story revolving involving the aliens refreshing. It was a unique idea that was well executed. I highly recommend fans of sci-fi and alien movies check it out.

A couple of pictures from the movie that I liked.
