Throwback Thursday!

Happy Thursday!

New week with a new throwback to share. This week I'm sharing R.L. Stine's Beach Thrillers which includes Beach House & Beach Party.

I've already read Beach Party this year and it's time to read Beach House. These are quick reads for just a few hours and remind me of my teenager days staying up late reading.

I was a huge fan of Point Horror as a teenager and they are still fun quick thriller horror with just a touch of romance to read. They are very nostalgic re-reading these.

Do you have a book that you enjoyed when you were younger?

Throwback Thursday!

Happy Thursday! I can't believe we are at the end of the week it's just flying by so fast this year. We are already half way through the month. School has restarted here again which means the teenager is back in school. More time for reading but I miss her during the day we've been attached all summer.

Today I'm sharing two books one I read ages ago and loved so much and one that has been on my kindle for years.

First up is

Born at Midnight by C.C. Hunter

Synopsis

Welcome to Shadow Falls, nestled deep in the woods of a town called Fallen…

Kylie Galen has never felt normal. One night she finds herself at the wrong party, with the wrong people, and it changes her life forever. Her mother ships her off to Shadow Falls—a camp for troubled teens—but within hours of arriving, it becomes clear that her fellow campers aren't "troubled." Here at Shadow Falls, vampires, werewolves, shapeshifters, witches and fairies train side by side—learning to harness their powers, control their magic, and live in the normal world. They insist Kylie is one of them, and that she was brought to Shadow Falls for a reason.

As if life wasn't complicated enough, enter Derek and Lucas. Derek's a half Fae who's determined to be her boyfriend, and Lucas is a brooding werewolf with whom Kylie shares a secret past. Both Derek and Lucas couldn't be more different, but they both have a powerful hold on her heart. Even though Kylie is uncertain about everything, she starts to realize that Shadow Falls is exactly where she belongs…

Don't miss this spectacular, New York Times bestselling, young adult paranormal romance series from C. C. Hunter! Born at Midnight will steal your heart and haunt your dreams.

Kidnapped and taken prisoner, Kennedy’s life takes a dramatic turn, down a path she never imagined. Spending time with a man who killed her best friend’s mother and her friend, she knows he is not someone she should care about. But the longer she spends with her enemy, the more her feelings blur the line between what is right and wrong, what is true and what is not.

Throwback Thursday!

This week I picked a book that I may need to re-read as it's been a while.

Monster in my Closet by R.L. Naquin
Pub July 30th 2012
Synopsis

Zoey Donovan stopped believing in monsters long ago, but she knew she wasn’t imagining things when she found one in her kitchen baking muffins. She’d seen him once before when she was five, lurking in her closet, reaching his bony fingers toward her in the dark. Turns out that was a misunderstanding, and now Maurice needs a place to stay. How could she say no? She’s an empath, and she can feel how much he needs her help.

Now this ability to feel the emotions of those around her has turned her into a gourmet feast for an incubus, a demon that feeds off emotional energy. Brides are dropping dead all over town, and her home has become a safe house for the supernatural.

Zoey will have to learn to focus her powers to defeat the demon before he snacks on another innocent woman…and comes looking for the main course.

Which cover do you like the new one or the original with Zoey on the cover?

Throwback Thursday!

This week I picked one the first in one of my favorite series.

First Grave on the Right by Darynda Jones
Published Februray 1st 2011
Grab your copy (Here)
Add to your TBR (Here)

This is a finished series with 13 novels. You can read the first 4 on Kindle Unlimited.

This is one of my favorite series I love Charley she's a great character and I highly recommend.

Synopsis

First Grave on the Right is the smashing, award-winning debut novel that introduces Charley Davidson: part-time private investigator and full-time Grim Reaper.

Charley sees dead people. That's right, she sees dead people. And it's her job to convince them to "go into the light." But when these very dead people have died under less than ideal circumstances (i.e., murder), sometimes they want Charley to bring the bad guys to justice. Complicating matters are the intensely hot dreams she's been having about an Entity who has been following her all her life...and it turns out he might not be dead after all. In fact, he might be something else entirely.

This is a thrilling debut novel from Darynda Jones, an exciting newcomer to the world of paranormal romantic suspense.

First Grave on the Right is the winner of the 2012 Rita Award for Best First Book.

What's a book that you read over a year ago and still recommend? I'm always looking for new books to read.

Throwback Thursday!

Happy Throwback Thursday!

A new week all new books to share. On an adventure to the thrift shop with the munchkin we happened across these for only $1 couldn't pass them up. I used to have all the Nancy Drew books as a teenager but sadly they ended up lost within the many moves. I've been hunting them down over the years if I happen across them. I've read them so many times some of my favorite mysteries and started my love of mysteries.

Nancy Drew by Carolyn Keene
Originally Published May 1st 1930
The series consists of 163 volumes
She's written several other Nancy Drew Mysteries as well over the years.
Find them on (Goodreads

Since it's Throwback Thursday I'm watching a classic that came out 37 years ago this week.

Labyrinth

This man started my addiction to alpha, morally grey characters. I just loved him growing up and was so sure I would marry him. Sadly that didn't happy but Jareth will always be one of my favorite fictional men. The puppetry for this movie was amazing back in the day and I still think it's magical watching it this am.

Anyone else in love with the Goblin King Jereth?

Throwback Thursday!

Gosh it’s already Thursday the week is flying by. I need more reading time because I just haven't been able to get enough this week.

I tried to find my original copy of The Handmaid’s Tale for #throwbackthursday but I don’t have it sadly. I did find an image of the copy I used to have. I also included the more modern current cover.

I read this in 9th grade and also 11th grade. I remember my reading group in 11th coming over to my house to watch the movie….My reading group watched the movie that year too. I don't think my parents took into consideration what kind of movie I had my reading group over to watch. It was a interesting few hours of movie night, even if it was super uncomfortable. When we presented in class we watched the movie I thought my teacher was going to die. I haven't read it or seen it since that year.

Margaret Atwood was ahead of her time when she wrote this one because now it’s a Hulu sensation. I’ve been devouring each season as they did an amazing job turning the book into a show. I was going to read the new book but I going to wait a little longer and read them both together. I didn’t love it when I read it in school either time but I do enjoy the show.

QOTD: Did you read The Handmaid’s Tale in school? Have you seen the show on Hulu?

Throwback Thursday!

Happy Thursday! It's time for a flashback from the past.

This week I present Betty Neels Harlequin romance! She's been one of my favorite authors since I was little. Both of my grandmothers used to read her sweet romance novels. I think I have all 134 of them in a box. I just love the classic covers.

Throwback Thursday!

Happy Thursday! It's time for a flashback from the past.

This week I have Jane by April Lindner which I read back in 2015. It was a lovely story one of my favorite retelling concepts. Check out the full review (here). I thought this was a great picture of the book with the bush in bloom in the front yard.

Throwback Thursday!

Happy Thursday! Another week another book another adventure.

It's been a while since I've done one of these.

Vampire Academy is one of my all time favorites.

The first book Vampire Academy came out August 16th 2007 written by the very talented Richelle Mead.

Synopsis
Only a true best friend can protect you from your immortal enemies...

Lissa Dragomir is a Moroi princess: a mortal vampire with a rare gift for harnessing the earth's magic. She must be protected at all times from Strigoi; the fiercest vampires—the ones who never die. The powerful blend of human and vampire blood that flows through Rose Hathaway, Lissa's best friend, makes her a dhampir. Rose is dedicated to a dangerous life of protecting Lissa from the Strigoi, who are hell-bent on making Lissa one of them.

After two years of freedom, Rose and Lissa are caught and dragged back to St. Vladimir's Academy, a school for vampire royalty and their guardians-to-be, hidden in the deep forests of Montana. But inside the iron gates, life is even more fraught with danger... and the Strigoi are always close by.

Rose and Lissa must navigate their dangerous world, confront the temptations of forbidden love, and never once let their guard down, lest the evil undead make Lissa one of them forever...

Since the books came out we've had a movie it was the best but I really enjoyed the snarky banter. Sadly it failed and we didn't get anymore of the books turned to movies.

Peacock picked up the books to make a tv show we received the first season but it didn't make a second season. Peacock just feels the younger demographic isn't watching it yet. Super bummed but maybe in the future we will see it again. I'm hopeful because I love the world that Richelle Mead created.

Did you read the books? Watch either the movie or tv show?

This week's share is a movie from when I was a kid. I guess you could say I've always had a thing for zombies. This one came out in 1993 which was almost 30 years ago still hard to believe. Such a great romantic comedy.
I actually had this on VHS back in the day as well as the DVD later on. I even purchased it on Amazon so I can watch it anywhere. It has these great comic book pages in the movie that I love. I decided it was perfect to pick one for my Instagram post.

The Hallowed Ones & The Outside
by Laura Bickle
My share this week is a book duo I received for review and read back in 2012 & 2013 that I just loved. I keep hoping for another in the series as it's such a unique twist on a dystopian world with vampires.

My Throwback this week is Anita Blake by Laurell K Hamilton

I used to love this series so much. I've actually given away so many copies of the first book sharing it with others. The first 9 of the series are amazing but unfortunately later in the series they became more about the men in Anita's life and less about being a vampire slayer. She started a harem of men which I think was just to much. I still love Anita she's just not my favorite and it takes just the right mindset to read her books now.

My Throwback this week is a flashback to my teenage years.

Growing up I was such a huge fan of Christopher Pike
I actually have a few well-loved books of his and some of the newer in eBook. I hope to one day collect all my favorites but unless they are put in eBook format I'm not sure if that will happen. However, his Spooksville series is in Ebook so maybe one day I'll get my wish.

Throwback Thursday

Throwback Thursday January 23rd 2013

Throwback Thursday is a weekly meme hosted by The Housework Can Wait and Never to fond of Books.

It's the nature of book blogging to focus mainly on new releases, but there are thousands of great books out there that haven't seen the "New Releases" shelf in years. We hope to be able to bring attention to some older titles that may or not be at the top of the current bestseller list, but still deserve a spot in your To-Be-Read pile.

You don't have to be a book blogger to participate! You can put up a Throwback Thursday post on your non-bookish blog; or if you don't have a blog at all you can use the comments to tell us about a book your remember fondly.

And NOW! We’re expanding! Throwback Thursday is no longer limited to just books! Throwback Thursday is dedicated to shining the spotlight on any book-related old favorites that need to be remembered. What’s your favorite classic television show or movie adaptation? What about your favorite song? Was your favorite toy a character from a book?
Here’s how it works:
  • Pick any media (or non-media item) released more than 5 years ago. Remember to keep it book-related!
  • Write up a short summary (include the title, author, and cover art, if applicable) and an explanation of why you love it. Make sure to link back to The Housework Can Wait and Never Too Fond of Books in your post.
  • Link up your post at The Housework Can Wait or Never Too Fond of Books.
  • Visit as many blogs as you can, reminisce about books you loved, and discover some “new” books for your TBR list – or some other classic.
This week my throwback is:
Nice Girls Don't Have Fangs by Molly Harper

Synopsis

Maybe it was the Shenanigans gift certificate that put her over the edge. When children's librarian and self-professed nice girl Jane Jameson is fired by her beastly boss and handed twenty-five dollars in potato skins instead of a severance check, she goes on a bender that's sure to become Half Moon Hollow legend. On her way home, she's mistaken for a deer, shot, and left for dead. And thanks to the mysterious stranger she met while chugging neon-colored cocktails, she wakes up with a decidedly unladylike thirst for blood.

Jane is now the latest recipient of a gift basket from the Newly Undead Welcoming Committee, and her life-after-lifestyle is taking some getting used to. Her recently deceased favorite aunt is now her ghostly roommate. She has to fake breathing and endure daytime hours to avoid coming out of the coffin to her family. She's forced to forgo her favorite down-home Southern cooking for bags of O negative. Her relationship with her sexy, mercurial vampire sire keeps running hot and cold. And if all that wasn't enough, it looks like someone in Half Moon Hollow is trying to frame her for a series of vampire murders. What's a nice undead girl to do?

I really enjoyed this series I gobbled up the first three books in a weekend. I've got to pick up number 4 because I just found out a few weeks ago it came out. Molly harper is great at creating a story mixed with humor. Plus she's bookish what's not to love. I think it may be time to re-read this series.
