Author Interview - Nikki Rae

Today I'm thrilled to share with you all an interview with one of my favorite authors. The very talented Nikki Rae the author of the Sunshine Series. She was super kind answering all my prying questions. I hope you enjoy her answers as much as I do. I just had to share the covers for the series aren't they stunning! 

 Mandy ~ Where did you get the inspiration for “The Sunshine Series”?

Nikki ~ When I was 14 or 15, I went on vacation to Aruba with my family. I got sun poisoning the first day we were there, and I was stuck in the hotel for the rest of the trip. I started wondering what it would be like for someone if something like that happened to them whenever they went out in the sun, so I started writing Sunshine.

Mandy ~ Do you see yourself in any of your characters?

Nikki ~ I think I see myself in all of the characters. There’s no way I can write truthfully without letting little parts of myself slipping into the people I write about.

Mandy ~ Did you always know you wanted to be a writer?

Nikki ~ I didn’t always know I wanted to write. I knew that I liked telling stories, and I liked writing them down, but it took me a really long time to figure out that I could do it as a career or that anyone would ever consider me an author.

Mandy ~ What does your writing area look like? (Pictures work for this one too)
Nikki ~ My writing area is a bg brown desk that has a lot of christmas lights, halloween decorations, art, and candles.

Mandy ~ What are five items you never leave home without?Nikki ~ My black notebook, pens, my kindle, my flashdrive, and some form of tea.

Mandy ~ Do you prefer ebooks or print?

Nikki ~ I like all forms of books. I Iove the feel and smell of physical books, but I love the accessibility and how cheap ebooks can be. I don’t think it matters how or what you read, as long as you’re reading.

Mandy ~ What are you reading right now?

Nikki ~ I’m reading MASKED by Janelle Stalder and I LOVE it!

Mandy ~ Do you have a favorite TV show?

Nikki ~ I don’t really watch TV, but lately I’ve been watching Rick and Morty, but I also like Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad, and I’m re-watching all of Buffy right now as well.

Mandy ~ What’s one thing that scares you?

Nikki ~ You mean besides spiders?

okay, besides spiders, not getting to finish all of the things I want to do.

Mandy ~ Who’s your favorite muppet?

Nikki ~ Beaker! Meep meep!

Mandy ~ Tell us your most rewarding experience since being published?

Nikki ~ Anytime someone tells me how my book affected them. It can be in a good or bad way. People have told me how Sunshine has comforted them, and some have told me how it disturbed them. I think a good book should do both.

Mandy ~ Goals for the future projects books (New series)?

Nikki ~ I’m working on a spin off novel that involves a few characters from The Sunshine Series, but you won’t have to read The Sunshine Series to understand it. It’s going to be a horror/suspense stand alone, and I’m really loving it so far. But I think the next series I have planned will be about a girl who is in love with a box...and what comes out of it.
