Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created at The Broke And The Brookish. Who doesn't love lists. They make life easy! And fun!! It's always a never ending topic.

This week's topic is:
Top ten words/topics that make me not pick up a book

1. Triangles - I can't stand love triangles I hate the idea of a character being torn between two guys or two girls. I've been suckered in a few times but never finished a single book that involves a love triangle.

2. Non-fiction - I know a huge topic I tend to avoid it like the plague. I'd rather read anything fiction.

3. Self help - I'm not into anything that's supposed to make me a better person. I like who I am even with all my flaws.

4.  Poetry - I used to love it as a kid but I've gotten to the point it just doesn't do it for me. However I do still have my favorite "The Highway Man by Alfred Noyes"

5. Really long Books - tend to get passed over for shorter books.

6. Creepy forbidden romance - like teacher student that's just to creepy. I know when I was a teenager I loved the older guys but I just can't handle the idea now that I'm a mom.

7. Erotic - Yup this is avoid I want a story with a little smut, not smut with a little story.

8. Death - example main character has cancer or other disease that will leave them dead in the end. I've read one book like this however beautiful it broke my heart.

9. Talking Animals - As much as I love books with shapeshifters I can't seem to be excited about reading books told from the point of view of talking animals.

10. Religion - I can take a little but books that are heavy with it tend to turn me off to the point I won't even give them a chance.

  1. Non fiction made my list this week too! I also don't really like triangles either.

  2. While I do love a lot of things on your list (I'm a huge fan of poetry & non-fiction) I'm totally on board with you that the love triange is over-done. i'm seein gmore and more triangles go hand in hand with creepy romances; Too often in the love triangle we see Stockholm syndrome and I do NOT think we should be telling young girls it's cool to have the hots for your abusive captor.

  3. I think you nailed erotica on the head. It's doesn't ever really seem to be about anything but sex. I want some character development and a real storyline, not bad porn made into a bad book.

  4. Good point about Love Triangles. They're quite overdone these days. Thanks for stopping by my blog!

  6. Haha I love how you phrased #7 xD I agree about death, there's enough death in the real world without bringing it into my fun reading time. Also about religion. I read a very religious book recently and every time they started getting preachy I cringed a little. Or a lot.

  7. While I was in Middle School I read the Love Comes Softly Series and The Candian West Series. Both were awesome Christian Fiction. Since then I had read any Christian Fiction until Redemption which I ended up hating. It has turned me off from Christian Fiction. I still stick to the Love Comes Softly Series being one of my favorite series.
