Synopsis

Jet is a Nix, the daughter of an Enchantress who went outside her bloodlines. No one helps a Nix, and even though her father is in deep trouble with Dei Lucrii, a Dark Enchanter who paid her family an extraordinary sum to make a passion potion, Jet has no way to fix the powerful spell that killed her mother.

But someone is watching her. A very handsome someone whose face appears in a pewter bowl her mother always kept close by.

Could the boy be the secret to avoiding the curse of the Nix? Or is he the sort of distraction Jet REALLY can’t afford at a time like this?

Passion Potion is a paranormal new adult romance from the author of the romantic comedy hit Heteroflexibility.

Teaser

Mavis screamed like a little girl.
"I'm not going to hurt you," I said, feeling around for the window latch.
The window rose with a groan.
"You can't come in here." Mavis backed to the doorway, holding her hands out in front of her. "I'll — I'll turn you into a frog!"

"Really? That's all you've got?" I glanced around the room, a disaster area, clothes and CDs and notebooks scattered everywhere. A poster of a blonde in a red bikini told me it belonged to the boy.

Review

I received Passion Potion in return for an honest review from the publisher via netgalley. Jet’s been struggling to pass her classes at the semester ends she’s told she could defer and start the following semester. When she calls her father to tell him the news he’s thrilled that she’s coming home, but she sense something is up because he takes her failing well. It’s on the drive home from school that her father reveals what’s really going on, that her mother was a enchantress who died from a spell going wrong.

Jet’s father tells her that her mom took out multiple mortgages, to create this passion potion, and now they are going to lose the house unless she can create it. The only problem is Jet isn't an enchantress she’s a nix with limited magical abilities. While sitting in her mom’s workshop coming to grips with everything she’s learned plus her mom’s talking ferret she meets a stranger through a portal. Jet sets out to meet her mother’s friends hoping to find the stranger and help with the potion but are instantly denied help because it’s against the law to help a nix. Jet does find the stranger his name is Caleb and they both are drawn to each other because they are a match.

As time is running out Jet finds herself in the sights of a dark enchanter who could be responsible for killing her mother. Risking everything to save her family she learns secrets that will change everything? Will Jet be able to overcome being a nix and save her house as well as get rid of the Dark Enchanter?

I really think Jet’s a great character she has a great personality, she’s clever and just rolls with all the craziness in stride. With Jet’s character she grows though the story from knowing nothing about magic to holding her own. I like the connection between Jet and Caleb how he was willing to give it all up going against everything he’s been raised to accept for her. I think the supporting characters are fun, like the free spirit ferret that enhances the story. Plus what’s not to love about a bad guy who you just love to hate Dei Lucrii.

Passion Potion is a fast paced paranormal romance that draws the reader right into the craziness right from the start keeping you entertaining until the very end. I finished it in one evening it’s a quick read that I wasn't able to put down. I love the concept of the Enchanters as well as Nix’s I thought the author created a unique concept that was refreshing compared to other magic stories. I love the writing it’s a smooth story flowing along mixing mystery, romance and humor to create a captivating adventure. Passion Potion is a New Adult book because it does touch on a few adult situations however I think mature teens will enjoy the story. A perfect lazy afternoon book because you can finish in one sitting and it ends that if there isn't a sequel it’s not a issues however I would love to see more from Jet with her next adventure.
4 out of 5 stars
