Today i'm super excited to share with all you wonderful readers a interview with the author of an exciting new YA Novel Teri Harman. Her new novel Blood Moon comes out today. Be sure to check out my (review) of Blood Moon. I hope you enjoy reading through her answers to my questions as much as I have.
Mandy ~Where did you come up with the
idea for Blood Moon?
Teri ~Blood Moon was actually inspired by an annual Halloween
witches party I do for the women in our families. The second year of the party
I found a killer location – a 100 year old school house. I wanted the party to
be as epic as the location, so I read a lot about witches, Wicca and natural
magic to gather ideas for games, activities, décor, food, etc. I was fascinated
by it all and after the party my husband suggested I take the research and my
witch obsession and write a book.
Mandy ~Have you always been drawn to
things that go bump in the night?
Teri ~Yes, for as long as I can remember. As a kid, I devoured
books like “The Black Cauldron,” and “Ghost Stories to Tell in the Dark,” the
“Goosebumps” series and R.L. Stine books. Certainly not quality literature, but
I couldn't get enough of the twisted and bizarre. And that hunger for the
haunting has never stopped. I read and loved the “Hannibal” books. My favorite
TV shows have included “Buffy,” “The X-Files,” “Supernatural,” and “The Walking
Dead.” If it’s dark and magical, I’m in.
Mandy ~Do you see yourself in Willa?
Teri ~I think so, as most authors see themselves in their
characters in one way or another. Willa’s ability to see the past, present and
future in her dreams is actually based on my own vivid dreaming experiences.
And several of her dreams in BLOOD MOON are based on my own. She is a historian
and I adore the mystery of history. And she lives in a quaint small town, which
is a fantasy of mine.
Mandy ~Are you currently working on
Black Moon?
Teri ~Yes, and I’m almost finished. BLACK MOON has taken some
interesting and exciting turns and I hope readers love it as much as I do. If
they don’t hate me for the ending (insert maniacal laugh).
Mandy ~Do you see Blood Moon as a movie
one day?
Teri ~Of course! How cool would that be? I think every author
imagines her story brought to life on the big screen. I’d also be thrilled to
death if it became a TV series. I prefer TV series to movies because there’s so
much more freedom to develop and engage with the characters and the story. So
fingers crossed.
Mandy ~Do you have a favorite monster?
Teri ~Hmmm….that’s a tough one. I can think of all kinds of
scary monsters and demons from “Buffy” and “Supernatural.” I think the one that
lingers in my mind the most is from the first season of “Supernatural.” It’s a
scarecrow monster that holds a small town hostage and demands a sacrifice every
year. So creepy!
Mandy ~Do you like scary movies?
Teri ~Certainly! Although, I’m pretty picky about what I think
qualifies as a good scary movie. I prefer older ones with more of a
psychological scary than blood and guts, such as “Wait Until Dark” with Audrey
Hepburn. Another one I love, that not a lot of people know about, is a cult
classic from the 60’s called “Carnival of Souls.” It’s a low-budget flick, but
it was filmed at the ruins of Saltair, on the Great Salt Lake here in Utah, and
I’m fascinated by that place. It’s not super scary, but it has a few golden
moments.
Mandy ~What’s one thing you can’t go a
day without?
Teri ~Reading. I’m addicted to books and I can’t go a day
without reading.
Mandy ~What are 5 items you never leave
home without?
Teri ~A book, NYX lip gloss, Kleenexes, Sunglasses, and
Listerine mint strips.
Mandy ~Where can we STALK you?
Teri ~Feel free to stalk on any or all of the following on-line
hangouts.

Mandy ~Anything you want to say to your
readers?
Teri ~Stories are meant to be shared and books don’t truly come
alive until they are placed in the hands of readers. I hope that BLOOD MOON and
the magic of the Moonlight witches come alive for each of you!
Thanks so much, Mandy! It’s a pleasure to be featured on
your blog!
Mandy ~ Thank you so much Teri for being here today. I've enjoyed reading Blood Moon and loved your answers. I look forward to Black Moon can't wait!!!!
