Synopsis
For months, Jesse has been envious of her twin sister Bryn and even has a crush on Bryn’s gorgeous, popular boyfriend, Quinton. When Jesse awakens from a coma to learn that everyone thinks she IS Bryn, the option of actually taking over her sister’s life is beyond tempting, but there’s a downside. She’d have to give up Ethan, her best friend and the only person she trusts. Could she actually live as Bryn for the rest of her life? And if her family and friends found out, would they ever forgive her?
Review
I received Becoming Bryn in return for an honest review from the publisher Acacia Publishing. Jesse has always been jealous of her twin sister Bryn’s life. Bryn has the perfect life she’s popular, cheerleader, has the cutest boyfriend in school, and her mother favors her. While headed to the corn maze the girls get into a fatal accident in which Bryn doesn't make it. Everyone thinks it was Jesse who passed away because she was wearing Bryn’s costume. It’s not like they can ask Jesse since she’s in a coma. It’s when she comes out that she learns they have buried Jesse and everyone including Bryn’s boyfriend think she’s Bryn.
As she finally has a chance to correct them Jesse decides to take Bryn’s life after all she’s always wanted it and Bryn even told her to take it. Bryn may have passed away but her spirit lives stuck in limbo watch as her sister takes her life and boyfriend. The only thing Bryn can do is watch, hoping that Jesse will come clean with everyone. As Jesse gets deeper into Bryn’s life she learns it’s not all perfect, that she has to try really hard to be perfect and popular all the time. By choosing to be Bryn she has also giving up any chance of having Ethan as a friend but was it worth it? Jesse’s gotten in too deep will she be able to fix it before it goes too far?
I like Jesse she’s smart, independent, and most of all human. I’m sure she’s not the only one wish she had her sisters life. I know I had moments growing up when I wished I had my sisters life. Had I been in her shoes I can’t say I wouldn't have done the same thing. I also love Bryn she’s passed away yet up in limbo she’s cheering on her sister and being supportive even though she’s upset. I think the two girls steal the story they each are unique but loyal loving sisters even if they did have their own flaws. I also really love how the author shows provides us with a unique insight into what happened to Bryn after the accident. The way the book bounces between the two girls really enhances the story.
Becoming Bryn is a unique concept that captures the imagination right from the start. We are giving insight into both girls that spins an intricate web of love, loyal, deceit, forgiveness and growing up. The characters are engaging, easy to connect with and it’s hard not to fall in love with all of them, well I have a few I disliked but it’s to be expected. I like books when the characters grow learning from their mistakes. The book is beautifully written very well done from start to finish. I ended up staying up super late till three in the morning reading, even had tears in my eyes because the end is just so amazing. Thankfully the puppy had to potty and I was able to sneak downstairs and write my review. I think the author did a fantastic job creating Becoming Bryn I just really loved everything about the book. It’s one of my new favorites. I look forward to check out the rest of Angela Carling’s books.
