Synopsis

Everyone wishes the ancient prophecy would go away. Pixies commute to work and sirens make mp3s of their songs, yet antique forces stubbornly persist. They want to bring about a war between Light and Darkness in an era when most people just want to cash in on the merchandising.

Aki is struggling to make ends meet and hopes her scholarship can at least earn her a better apartment. Blake refuses to believe he could be something so cliché as a Knight of Darkness. Keisha is pursuing a career in law when she's told she has no choice but to serve the forces of Light. All of them will be attending the same university, whether they like it or not.

It's hard to think about dark omens when there's a term paper due, much less a party that night. But they'd better relax while they can, because after college is only the real world, which is stranger and more dangerous than they could possibly imagine.

Review

This book is about three different people from three different walks of life each with a different goal. Each receives a chance to attend Axis University. First there is Aki who is struggling to get by, she's using small magic charms to pay the bills her essence is a more in the middle of light and dark. Whereas Blake's essence is very dark, he's also hiding what he really knows, pretending not to care. Then there is Keisha she really wanted to attend law school but when not accepted settles for Axis in hopes of being able to pay for law school. She's also the light essence of the trio.

A prophecy is looming on the horizon stating a battle will happen between the dark and light a good vs evil in essence. All of the students are learning different skills to help cultivate their abilities as well as their essences for the university.

I honestly had a harder time getting into this book, but once I was into I actually enjoyed it. I have lots of questions and not as many answers as I would like but I'm sure the next book will clear them up. I like the character development we get a good idea who and why each of the three is the way they are. It's a quick read enjoyable read that keep me wanting to know what was going to happen next as I got more into the book. This book reminds me a little of Harry Potter but the characters are old and for me more relatable. For me it's a unique twist on the wizard and witch aspect which I liked.
