Baxter soon realizes that if she’s going to defeat Declan and get back to her world, she’ll have to reclaim her abilities and be stronger than she ever imagined.

Declan and the Absorbers’ Initiative wage war on everyone who opposes them in their hunt for Baxter. Their actions reveal what her future will be like if she doesn’t make some drastic decisions. She knows that one misstep on her part will lead to the destruction of not just this world, but her own.

Review
I received Alternate in return for an honest review from the author.  Alternate is the third and final installment in the Chronicles of the Interred series. Starting off right after the end of the prior book with Baxter ending up in an alternate world in which she is the blame for changing the future and the only one who can fix it. Six Baxters have appeared in this world before her one being the original Baxter but all have fallen to Declan so it’s up to change the future. When saving her brother she ends up losing her powers which she won’t be able to get back unless she fixes the time and returns to her own time.

At least she doesn’t have to fix the future she destroyed all on her own she has the alternate Jack but he’s less than thrilled with her even though he loved a version of her. With the help of some unlikely friends Baxter needs to gain control of the alternate Baxters powers if she hopes to defeat Declan once and for all. When her dad and Jack arrive in the alternate world it gives her the push she needs to figure it out. Leaping though time to change the past to fix the future is the only way to fix what wrong. Will this be her last time bending time or will they be victorious in fixing everything?

I’ve liked Baxter since the first book she’s one of those characters who just gets better with each book and I just adore her. I like Jack not the alternate Jack but her Jack from her time he’s the perfect warrior to complement her and has supported her the whole time. Along the way we have met some interesting characters like Declan I wanted to dislike him after all he’s the bad guy but I kind of understand him. It can’t be easy growing up in a world with magical abilities to start with. While Declan chose the dark path it’s Baxter who’s going to save the day.

I tend to procrastinate on finishing a series because I’m never ready to say goodbye to my favorite characters. The Chronicles of the Interred is a fast paced action packed series that captures the heart as well as the imagination. Filled with unique characters that are easy to connect with Baxter is one of my favorite characters and I loved every page of her story. I’m sad to see it end because deep down I know this is the end but I think the author did an amazing job of ending the series. I can hope for more from Baxter and Jack but if not I know they got exactly what they deserved. Alternate is another well written installment in the series flowing from start to finish it’s hard to put down and I finished it in one afternoon. Truly one of my favorite time travel series it’s a clean series that teens will enjoy as well as adults. I know it’s one that I’ll be coming back to read again and I can’t wait to see what the author comes up with next.
