Review
Ardent is the first installment in the ArcKnight Chronicles a paranormal romance about two packs of shifters. Two sisters one destined to be the Queen of the pack the other her little sister each has a future that neither one expects. Rafaela is to be married to Gil the future pack leader but while she may be invested in their future marriage it’s clear that Gil isn’t as faithful. Lily’s Ardent Talisman is stole but she covers for the friend who she know stole it and ends up banished from the only home she’s known. Forced onto the streets in the middle of two waring wolf packs could mean death for most but even though she’s royal Lily won’t give up without a fight.

When Lily encounters a rival wolf she finds a strange connection and the support she so desperately needs.  Ephrem at one time was betrothed to marry Lily but before that could happen everything changed, but he never stopped thinking about her. Now that she’s back in his life he’s determined to protect her at all cost. With the help of Ephrem she finds her talisman belonging to the future pack leader of the MarkTier pack. However Lily isn’t the only one with issues Rafaela is now married to Gil and since she hasn’t created an heir he’s decided he needs another wife. Will she be able to change her future of end up being pushed aside?

I like both Lily and Rafaela they each have a unique intertwining story a path that will lead them each for greatness. Both girls also have true champions Lily has Ephrem and Ella with Alec together they have a long road ahead but I can only imagine where it’s going to end. I think the guys are perfect for our royal princess’s they complement them each very well.

I was super excited about Alexia Purdy having a new shifter series because it’s one of my favorite themes and I love her books. I actually picked up all three because I hate waiting for the next one. Ardent is a fast paced novel it’s loaded with action, mystery, romance and magic. I love the characters they are easy to connect with and what’s not to love about kick ass werewolf princess. The concept is intriguing the idea of two packs of shifters fighting over a single town while a new threat looms in the fog. Loved every moment of Ardent it’s a well written captivating story that I can’t wait to finish. I’m a huge fan of the authors writing style it just flows along so smooth and it’s hard to put down had to finish it in a single sitting. My only complaint is that they are short novels and I know I’m going to want more when it ends.

In a world where monsters called Yoma prey on humans and live among them in disguise, humanity’s only hope is a new breed of warrior known as Claymores.

Seven years have passed since the devastating battle in Pieta, and now a new generation of Claymores carries on the fight against the Awakened Ones. However, the mystery of Claire's fate, and of that of her comrades, resurfaces after a surprising discovery made by a young Claymore.

Review
Claymore is a manga about Yoma who pretend to be human in order to kill and eat the humans. The Claymore are the hybrid of the two stronger faster but still human with the ability to slay the Yoma which they do for a price. They travel from village to village slaying Yoma with nothing but the sword on their back using the Yoma abilities but slowly turning into a monster that they hunt. When the time comes a Claymore will send a black card to another claymore to be slain before the Yoma takes over and so they die as a human.

In the 12th installment 7 years have passed the 24 claymore perished in the battle against the awakened beings. Only seven survived but in doing so they had to fake their own deaths knowing the organization would be after them otherwise. They spent the seven years training together to be a lethal team but the time has come for Clare to find Raki and seek the revenge she very much deserves from Pricilla. While in hiding the abyssal beings have been fighting each other, new claymores had to be created to replace those they lost one young claymore who’s weak unlike the others has taken over Clare’s spot. Will she survive to become a powerful claymore or just another pray for Yoma. Will Clare find Raki?

I like Clare she’s a sword carrying slayer who isn’t afraid to die charging in risking her life. She may not survive every encounter but that doesn’t stop her from doing what has to be done protecting the humans.  While most Claymore’s wouldn’t allow Raki to tag along she accepts him and maybe it’s partly because they are kindred but he needs her and she him to keep her humanity. I find Clare to be an intriguing character and can’t wait to see more about her back story as well as what’s going to happen next. We are given a little back story on Clare which introduces us to Teresa a Claymore whose life was changed by Clare.

I’ve seen all of the episodes on Netflix a few years ago actually binge watched them over a long weekend. I love the concept for the Claymore the hybrids created using parts from the monsters that they have been created to fight. While I am familiar with the story it’s interesting to see it play out as I read it. The art is great it gives me just enough to create the story in my head as I read each detailed page. This is only my 2nd manga so I don’t have a lot to go on but so far I’m super exited to read the series. Claymore is a fast paced loaded with action series that is captivating right from the start hard to put down till the last page. Can’t wait to start the next one in the series they just keep getting better. I feel like a voracious Reader because I can’t get enough.

#DustOffYourBookshelf #40

Dust off your Bookshelf was originally created to share books that have been on my “to read pile” for a long time. Some so long I’ve forgotten that they are there, and have purchased duplicate copies. Each week I will share on my blog as well as Instagram a new title. Some may be newer and some so old I have forgotten they are there. I do have issues with buying books and never reading them. I’m hoping that by share them I will be motivated to read them. Plus it’s always fun to find new books hiding within the bookshelves. Feel free to join in and share on Instagram or your blog. Just let me know so I can check out your choice this week too. Just use #DustOffYourBookshelf

I've not read a lot with Angels but this one's cover is telling me I must. I can't even remember how long it's been since I picked it up but it sounds good.

My book this week
They Who Fell
Kevin Kneupper
(Goodreads)

They say that long ago, there was a rebellion in Heaven. That an army of angels sought to seize the throne, and were cast down into the pits of Hell in punishment. Those are the affairs of angels, and everything would have been fine if they’d kept them to themselves. But there’s been another uprising, and another Fall. Cast down to Earth, the rebel angels ravaged the globe in an orgy of sin and violence as they indulged in their newfound freedoms. Their new home is the Perch, a black, towering monstrosity that blights what’s left of the New York City skyline.

Life inside the Perch means you watch your tongue, if you’re a servant. Jana has lived there since she was a child, and now she’s found herself thrust into the middle of angelic politics. Some of them want to torture her, just for the fun of it. Others say they want to protect her. And Rhamiel, a charismatic and powerful angel with one of the few faces that wasn’t burnt and scarred by the Fall, is relentlessly pursuing her affections.

Life outside can be just as dangerous. Strange things fell with the angels and wander the countrysides. The roads are filled with Vichies, cringing humans who’ve thrown their lot in with their oppressors and won’t hesitate to take advantage of the weak. But some are still fighting, including William Holt. He leads a small cell of fighters, searching for a way to strike back against the angels without getting themselves killed in the process. And all around, the fallen angels inflict their savageries on the dwindling remains of humanity, enjoying every vice they’d been forbidden during their long centuries of service.

They Who Fell is the first book in a trilogy.
Feel free to dig through your shelves and share what you find.
Please leave a comment telling me where I can check it out.

S & S Book Review: Pixie Tamer

Title - Pixie Tamer
Author - Megan Haskell
Series - Prequel to Sanyare: The Last Descendant
Genre - YA Fantasy
Published - January 20th 2015
Format - Kindle freebie

A Short Story Prequel to Sanyare: The Last Descendant

It’s Nuriel “Rie” Lhethannien’s twenty-fifth nameday. She should be celebrating her rise to maturity, not sweating in the training hall. But life isn’t fair, and humans aren’t equal to the elves, at least not in the High Court.

After losing a practice bout to the one man she wants to trust, Rie is thrown into the most challenging test of her life. Will the rewards outweigh the risks?

Review

Pixie Tamer is the prequel that leads us into Sanyare. We are given a taste of Rie in battle and her encounter with the pixies. Rie is a human girl living among the Elves working hard to earn her place among them training hard each day. After a day of letting an elf get the best of her in a fight, her guardian sends her off to survive an encounter with the pixies. However this encounter with the pixies will be anything but what she expects.

We are only given a few short pages of who Rie is but I can see already she’s the kind of character that I’m going to enjoy. Right off I can’t pronounce any of the other characters so far in the book but that’s alright with me I just make it up in my head which is half the fun. While Pixie Tamer is short it does have just enough to wet my appetite for the book and I can’t wait to dive into Rie’s world. While short the story is well written and captivating it draws the reader in giving just enough to leave them wanting more. I can’t wait to start the book Sanyare: The Last Descendant which is my next read.

1. Best Book You Read In 2015?

Paranormal - Fire in the Wood by Jennifer M. Eaton

I didn't have very many books I didn't enjoy this year. I guess I just did a lot of really good picking this round.

 3. Most surprising (in a good way or bad way) book you read?
Fatal Beauty by Nazarea Andrews was so not what I expected when I started it. Super surprising but in a very good way. It was wow. The cover was what captured my attention.

 4. Book You “Pushed” The Most People To Read (And They Did)?
I pushed Red Queen & A Court of Thorns and Roses the most.

 15. Favorite Passage/Quote From A Book You Read In 2015?
Hero by Samantha Young
“If that tired you out we need to get your stamina up. You should have been in the gym with me and Henry.”
I wrinkled my nose. “Um, no. The gym and I parted ways a long time ago. I’m in a relationship with Pilates and we’re very happy together.”
“Dancing,” Effie said, “now, that’s exercise and it’s fun. I’ve never seen the attraction in sitting in some smelly gym lifting weights.”
“Hear, hear,” I muttered.
“And then of course there’s sex. Lots and lots of sex.”
Caine’s fork clattered to his plate. He looked vaguely ill.
The snort I was trying to hold back bubbled up out of me and then Effie started cackling with laughter. It was infectious. I couldn’t stop my own from joining hers.
Caine looked from her to me, his lips pinched together. Finally he settled his irritation on me. “I will eat all of the lemon meringue pie,” he warned.

The thought cut off my laughter. “You can’t. Effie won’t let you.”

Book Review: Claymore Volume 11

Title - Claymore

Series - Silver-eyed slayer (Claymore Vol. 11)
Genre - Manga Fantasy
Format - Kindle
Published - October 2rd 2007

In the northern town of Pieta, Clare and a force of Claymores battle a troupe of Awakened Ones to prevent them from advancing south. Their orders are to hold off the evil horde at all costs, while the Organization prepares a secret weapon. Clare and her comrades realize that theirs is a suicide mission. As their friends fall one by one, the warriors band together to make their last stand.

In the 11th installment the Claymores are still fighting against the awakened beings hoping to hold them off till the organizations secret weapon is ready to start hunting. It’s clear that the mission may be the last for all the claymore’s because help isn’t coming in time. When a brutal attack from the awakened beings pushes Clare to far she may not be able to come back from awakening this time. What will the organization do after losing so many Claymore in one battle? What about the waring Abyssal’s who’ve decided to spread their wings.

Clare and a group of Claymores are sent to the north to battle a group of Yoma that have banded together under the command of Isley, a powerful Awakened Being. When the warriors arrive, they find their new enemies to be unusually dangerous. They are incredibly strong, well organized, and seem to have a plan to dominate the entire region. Will the Claymores be able to stop this monstrous army?

In the 10th installment the Claymore’s have travelled to the north to face the rising threat of the Awakened Beings who are teaming up. Upon arriving at the city where the Claymore’s will make the stand Clare finds her companions that she fought an awakened being with before. Joining up with her fellow Claymore’s it comes to question that the organization has sent the trouble makers to their death. When it’s clear the Awakened beings don’t plan to give up so easy and the girls will be put to the test and all may not make it out alive. Raki has taken up with the Abyssal of the north without knowing it.

2. I hoped she’d overestimated. She was getting her ass handed to her.
“Are you going to give up now? We just got started on the good stuff.” Jason smirked as he bounced on his feet, waiting for Lily to attack. Her face was flushed scarlet, and her long dark hair clung to the sweat drenching her face and neck. Flustered wasn’t the word to describe her in this state. If I hadn’t already spoken to her some, I’d say she was down for implosion any second.
“Come on, Lily. What are you waiting for?” I called out. She needed the push. There was nothing else she required. She had the skills. They just needed refining, and we were the best of the MarkTier pack who could train her.
3. This isn't my first book by the author and so far I love it. I could totally live in the Ardent world as a Royal shifter.

Wishlist Wednesday is a book blog hop where we will post about one book per week that has been on our wishlist for some time, or just added (it's entirely up to you), that we can't wait to get off the list and onto our wonderful shelves.
Hosted by Pen to Paper

This weeks book is one from my kindle wishlist. I love the cover and the synopsis has captured my attention.

My choice this week is:

Fire: The Elementals Book One
by L.B. Gilbert
(Goodreads)

Invested with the powers of Mother Nature, four women have been charged with the almost impossible task of maintaining order in the supernatural world and—when the crimes are extreme—the human world as well.

Diana, a fire Elemental, is almost burned out. Alone in the world (save for her Elemental sisters), she takes satisfaction in punishing those who’ve strayed so far into the black they’ve disrupted the balance. But her contentment is increasingly short-lived as she struggles with the limitations of her ability. An Elemental can track murderers to the ends of the earth, but not before it’s too late for their victims.

So when a child from a previous case goes missing, Diana is determined to find her. The only problem is, she may have to take on an entire coven of vampires to do it.
