Today I'm thrilled to share an interview with the very talented Laney McMann. The author of the exciting new novel Tied. I was lucky enough to have her answer a few of my favorite questions. I hope you enjoy reading her answers as much as I did.
Mandy - Where did you come up with the idea for Tied?
Laney - The idea just hit me one day, and the next thing I knew, I was 30,000 words into the story.
Mandy - Do you see yourself in any of your characters?
Laney - I see myself in all of my characters. I think it's hard to separate yourself completely from characters you're creating in your imagination. And that's especially true when writing in first person. So, I see myself in Layla in a lot of ways. I also see her
Mandy - Did you always know you wanted to be a writer?
Laney - I've always written for myself, but it was never aim to write professionally until a few years ago.
Mandy - Where do you prefer to do your writing? What type of computer or do you write by hand or typewriter?
Laney - I write all over. Outside, at my desk, on the couch. I get bored and move around a lot. I write on a Mac, take tons of hand written notes, and notes on my iphone.
Mandy - Do you prefer e-books, paperbacks or hardbacks?
Laney - Hardback is my favorite. They last and last, and I love the way they smell. But I also have gotten very used to downloading any book I want onto my kindle or nook in a few seconds. So, both formats have advantages.
Mandy - What are five items you never leave home without?
Laney - My iphone, my keys, my laptop, ice water or hot tea, and my purse
Mandy - Do you have a guilty pleasure?
Laney - Coke. As in coca cola. So bad for me, but it's my one true vice.
Mandy - If you could have paranormal abilities what would you choose?
Laney - Hm ... the power to hear people's thoughts would be cool. Time travel.
Mandy - Are you still working on the next book in the Fire Born Series?
Laney - I am. I'm about 75% finished with TORN as I'm writing this in July.
Mandy - Are you excited for the release of Tied?
Laney - I'm split. Part of me is excited and part of me is scared to death. This is a first for me, so there's always some trepidation that goes along with a debut.
Mandy - Anything you want to say to your readers?
Laney - I hope you fall in love with the story the way I have. ;)
BIO:
With a passion for the supernatural and all things magical, Laney developed a voracious appetite for reading fantasy at a young age. A vivid imagination helped set the stage for creating her own worlds and placed her onto the writing path.
By the time she reached her teens, she'd accumulated notebooks full of poems, which led to short stories and finally novels. Young adult dark fantasy, paranormal romance, and mythology are among her favorite genres.
A former classical dancer and chef, she grew up in sultry Florida where she still resides with her family.
