Synopsis

I’d always been different. I saw objects in the night where others saw emptiness. Large, human shaped shadows, fierce yet beautiful, melting into the darkness. I collected secrets like other women collected bells; afraid to fully trust lest my oddities be exposed.

Until I saw him. He’d been gliding down the street, unshakable confidence in every step. It wasn’t just that he was breathtakingly handsome with perfect features. Something about him drew me. Sucked my focus to him and then tugged at my body. As his eyes met mine, I was entrapped.

No one had noticed him. He’d been right there, just beyond the light, but only I had perceived.

I had to know if he was real. Or maybe I really was crazy. And even when my secret box was blasted wide open, dangers hurled at me like throwing knives, I couldn’t stop until I unraveled his true identity.

I just had to know.

“She was fated to live.”

“Then why must you save her?”

“Often Fate is struck down by dumb luck.”

Review
I received Into the Darkness in return for an honest review as part of the tour hosted by AToMR Promotions. Sasha has always been different even at an early age when she lost her family to a car accident. Growing up with a foster family has made her tougher, she’s started a new life attending college has a boyfriend and things are going great. Only one problem she can’t share everything with her boyfriend like the fact that she see’s things in the shadows. When a night out with her boyfriend turns horribly wrong causing, she has to confront what’s in the shadows.

That one night for Sasha changes her life forever the only problem is she doesn’t remember what happened and neither does her boyfriend. When she does remember what happens she heads to where the incident happened wanting to confront the men in the shadow’s but finds more than she bargained for. A stranger she feels connected with, conjured monsters, and super human hunters who drink blood and a world she never knew existed. Will Sasha make it out alive?

Right off the bat I liked Sasha she has issues but she doesn’t let them control her she’s fearless and willing to risk it all for the ones who matter. My heart went out to her boyfriend he’s a nice guy who doesn’t need to be mixed up with the men in the shadows. We are also introduced to a few of the men in the shadows like Charles who I kind of like and Stefen who I’m not sure about but he’s growing on me.

The author has taken the vampire concept creating a unique new story that mixes monsters, super human men, and magic to create a captivating story. The characters are easy to connect with you find the ones you love and the ones you love to hate. It’s not my typical story but the cover is what sold me. I will admit maybe I’m kind of prude but this story is overloaded with sex to the point it’s more sex than story. I thought the idea was great I just wish that there was more of a story, and less grotesque sex it’s overwhelming. I admit the sex while a lot fits into the story it makes sense when we learned more about the men in the shadows, and honestly it doesn’t ruin the story. If anything it’s just a perk sometimes you need to have a steamy story that gets your blood flowing. Overall it’s a great first installment in an exciting new series. I do offer a Warning it does deal with real life issues that may be too intense for everyone.

About the Author
A wine country native, she moved to San Francisco for college just shy of a decade ago to pursue a lifelong interest in film. As she settled into the vibrant city, it quickly became apparent that, while she thought making films was great fun, she lacked cinematic genius. For that reason, her career path quickly changed direction. Her next goal was a strange childhood interest, conjured at the dining room table while filling out a form. For some reason, her young self wanted to be an accountant. Thinking on it now, she wonders how she had any friends. Regardless, it was the direction she finally took.
While she could wrangle numbers with the best of 'em, and even though she wore the crown as the most outspoken, belligerent accountant in the world, her mind got as stuffy as her daily routine. It was here that she dusted off her creative hat and began writing. Now she makes movies in her head, and then writes them down. Blog Tour: Review - Braving the Elements

Title - Braving the Elements
Author - K.F. Breene
Series - Darkness #2
Genre - New Adult Paranormal
Format - PDF review copy
Published March 21st 2014

Synopsis

Sasha has always known she was different, but now she also knows that the shadow men she’s seen all her life, are real.
With a life goal of fitting in, Sasha hopes her strange abilities will finally make true friendship a possibility. Unfortunately, her magic doesn’t function like everyone else’s. What she thought would make her belong, sets her apart now more than ever.

Stefan, all but promised to a different woman, has tried to keep his mind on his duties instead of the irresistible and free-spirited human. But when she is threatened, he can’t keep his distance anymore. He realizes he’ll stop at nothing to keep her safe, and more importantly, make her his.

Just when one thing clicks into place, another spirals out of control. Stefan’s clan isn’t the only group that would benefit from an extremely rare type of magic. And their enemies will stop at nothing to get what they want.

Braving the Elements is the second novella in K.F.Breene’s long awaited Darkness series. Sasha’s story is one of discovery, awareness, and understanding, and is jam packed with action, humor, sexual tension, and an overwhelming desire for final acceptance.
Review
I received Braving the Elements in return for an honest review as part of the tour hosted by AToMR Promotions. After learning that she’s not just human and her life may be in danger wherever she goes Sasha has no choice but to stay at the mansion and learn how to control the elements or she could be a risk to herself and others. Her relationship with Jared is over he’s moved away to start a normal life leaving her behind to live her own life. Sasha knows that deep down she’s drawn to Stefen but he’s fated for another so she knows that there will never be anything with them. When he is forced to give her blood to save her life no once but twice they form a connection allowing each other to sense how they feel.

Sasha must learn to control the elements she has the ability to use the black color which is the most powerful and strongest magic. So she has a lot of potential to be great she just needs the training which is hard because she hasn’t been raised around the elements like the other students. When Stefen sends her to a charms class taught by the women who wants to be his mate things go wrong but not just for Sasha her bodyguard Charles also has to learn the charms. Will Sasha ever figure it out? Will her and Stefen ever have anything more than just a connection?

I love Sasha even more in this book she’s learning to deal with being in a new world but she’s not letting her struggles take her down. She’s learning from her mistakes and finding her place in Stefen’s world, even if she does make a few enemies’ she’s also making friends. My heart goes out for Charles he’s not a bad guy just not the right guy for Sasha but he’s still willing to risk it all to protect her. As for Stefen he’s so yummy I’m glad he and Sasha are figuring it out.

To be honest the first book was a little shell shocking. So I was a bit hesitant to start the second book but I wanted to see how it would play out between the characters. After all I really like Sasha she’s the kind of character I can connect with and I just can’t seem to get enough of her world. The author has taken the vampire concept but put her own unique spin creating a new race of humans that I just can’t seem to get enough of. I honestly started this book and finished it within a few hours it was hard to put down, the whole story grabs you right from the start packed with emotions, action, magic, romance and even a little mystery. While the first one was loaded with sex this one is packed full of story with only a few steamy scenes. I think the author has done a fantastic job weaving a story that captures the imagination as well as the heart. I can’t wait to start the third book which I have sitting right here ready to go.

Synopsis

If Sasha thought life would slow down after being captured, she was dead wrong.

Having an extremely high level of magic, but not knowing how to use it, has become more than a little problematic. Struggling to get her power under control has everyone on their toes, waiting for something to blow up. And then there is the issue of loving Stefan, but not being able to mate him because she hadn't a clue how to lead, which is necessary if she wants to rule by his side.

No, things have not gotten any easier.

With the incoming visit of the Regional and his white mage, the pressure turns way up for both Sasha and Stefan. So many issues are riding on the balance, and one word from the authoritative pair could have Sasha back in her old life, still in danger, and without the resources to carry on.

Sasha has to learn to battle while walking on a razor's edge.

Review
I received On a Razor’s Edge in return for an honest review as part of the tour hosted by AToMR Promotions. Sasha and Stefen have survived the most recent kidnapping they are now waiting for the Regional to show arrive. When the Regional arrive they test Sasha to see if she truly is a black mage or if it’s a mistake after all the black magic uses are just a myth. They also notice that Stefen has marked her but it’s not out of business but because he loves her. The pair is nervous that they won’t let them be together but after seeing what Sasha can do things are looking hopeful. With the help of Toa a white mage Sasha may just learn to control her powers.
Stefen and his people have been at war with the Mata who happen to be shape shifters but the Regional wants to form an alliance. Wanting to keep them happy so that he can keep Sasha as his mate Stefen agrees to let her live with the Mata as an exchange program. It will give her a chance to work with Toa on her magic as well as learn to be a leader. With a friend from the past claiming her she may have found her place in Stefen’s world but will it last? What about the threat that still wants to take control of Sasha and has found a way to get her?
Oh Sasha you just keep getting better with age. Each book I find myself liking her more and more, she has this spark you can’t help liking. She’s has a sense of humor that makes me laugh even if she’s creating killer treats or taking dinosaur bites. She may be lacking in training but she’s still willing to give it a shot even when it ends badly. I love the chemistry between Sasha and Stefen they are a power couple who love each other and are willing to risk everything for each other. I still like Charles he puts up with so much but handles it well.
I found On a Razor’s Edge to be a captivating installment in the Darkness series. I couldn’t put it down I just had to know what was going to happen to my new favorite power couple. The author introduces the twist of shapeshifters which I felt added a new dynamic to the mix. I’ve read the series back to back over the course of a day and half one after another. This is another installment I finished in a few hours. I can’t wait to see what’s going to happen next with the series. An action packed story filled that kept me on the edge of my seat till the very end only to leave me wanting more. The characters are engaging I feel like I’m really connecting to them. The covers are beautifully done just like the story that is beautifully written. I really enjoyed reading the book it was a surprise after how much I enjoyed the series. The first book is a little rough but the second and third are fantastic. This is my first series by this author but I plan to check out what else is available while I wait for the next book….”hint hint”

Blog Tour: Review: Psi Another Day

Title - Psi Another Day
Author - D.R. Rosensteel
Genre - YA Myster
Format - Ebook review copy
Publisher - Entangled Teen
Published - May 6th 2014

Synopsis

When spunky teen Rinnie is forced to bust out her secret Psi Fighter moves in school in order to bring downs its drug ring, she encounters a deeper plot…and a more sinister danger.

My name is Rinnie Noelle.

By day I'm just another girl in high school who likes lip gloss. But by night I'm a Psi Fighter—a secret guardian with a decade of training in the Mental Arts. Kinda like Batman, but without the cape.

Bad guys beware.

After screwing up my first mission, I'm now supposed to fix the problems at my school. Major, fly-catching yawn. Sure, drugs are bad, but what crime fighter wants to put bullies in detention when she can save the world from nefarious villains?
’Cause I will take you out.
But things heat up fast. Now I have two guys into me—yummy new kid, Egon, and my old nemesis-turned-nice-guy, Mason. Plus, word on the street is that a Walpurgis Knight, the Psi Fighter's worst enemy, has infiltrated the school. And everyone is a potential suspect, even Mason and Egon. Darn. Fingers crossed I find the Knight before he finds me...

Review
I received Psi Another Day in return for an honest review as part of the tour hosted by YA Bound. Rinnie isn’t like normal girls in school she’s a Psi Fighter which means she’s a superhero in training. She uses her psychic abilities to create weapons, her extensive hand to hand combat training, and Andy’s gadget’s to get the job done. Her secret identity is really important if it was to get out it could be detrimental so she wears a mask as well as armor that is stronger than Kevlar. Only one person knows her secret Kathryn that she’s a Psi Fighter.

Rinnie is still in training but she’s be assigned the drug ring that’s been happening at her school as well as to stop the bullying. It’s hard for her to stop the bully when she’s also being bullied and can’t use her psi powers without revealing herself. Even though she’s assigned the drugs Rinnie would rather be working the big case with Andy and even gets the chance but in her excitement blows the mission. Agreeing to work on the drugs at school she dives deeper learning that it’s more than just drugs and setting her on a deadly path that she may not survive.

I liked Rinnie right from the start she’s a super hero with a tortured past losing her parents at an early age and surviving high school is bound to be tough. She’s smart learning from her mistakes, growing as the book progresses which I really enjoyed plus she’s kick ass. I loved Kathryn right from the start she’s the beautiful girl who doesn’t act like a stuck up snob. She even is interested in the nerdy guy for his mind which I thought was awesome.

I’ve only read a few superhero books so the concept for Rinnie’s story I found unique and exciting. The book is loaded with action, suspense, secrets, mystery and a touch of romance. I found Psi Another Day to be a captivating story right from the start, it was hard to put down because I wanted to see what would happen next to Rinnie. The book is a mystery that keeps the reader guessing, I was on the edge of my seat thinking it was one person only to be shocked to find out how wrong I was. I love a mystery that can trick me.  I think the author has done a great job creating a story that teens as well as adults will enjoy. I felt the characters are well written you get know them even connecting with a few of them. I enjoyed Psi Another Day it was a fun read that I suggest anyone who likes super heroes should check out. I see potential for another book and would be interested in reading more about Rinnie’s adventures as a psi fighter.

My current case is no ordinary abduction. Before long I’m neck deep in blood magic – the worst kind. I need the help of a necromancer if I’m to free the kid. Doesn’t mean I have to like it.

When sexy djinn Saleem asks for help things get a little hot to handle. But how can I say know? Dodging demons and sorcerers are just part of my day job.

Excerpt
"So you'll arrest me because I spoke to a guy? Mighty protective of you, Detective." I smiled, injecting a little charm into the turn to my lips. "I always knew there was a reason you followed me around twenty-four seven, Detective. I just never realized it was because you had the hots for me."

A snort of laughter emanated from his dark-haired partner and I tilted my head to address him. "So who are you supposed to be? You the latest sorry sucker they found to babysit this fool?" I pointed a thumb at Fulbright who choked with fury at my words. Not that
being polite to Fulbright had ever been my strong suit.

AUTHOR BIO
I have been a writer from the time I was old enough to recognise that reading was a doorway into my imagination. Poetry was my first foray into the art of the written word. Books were my best friends, my escape, my haven. I am essentially a recluse but this part of my personality is impossible to practise given I have two teenage daughters, who are actually my friends, my tea-makers, my confidantes… I am blessed with a husband who has left me for golf. It’s a fair trade as I have left him for writing. We are both passionate supporters of each other's loves – it works wonderfully…

My heart is currently broken in two. One half resides in South Africa where my old roots still remain, and my heart still longs for the endless beaches and the smell of moist soil after a summer downpour. My love for Ma Afrika will never fade. The other half of me has been transplanted to the Land of the Long White Cloud. The land of the Taniwha, beautiful Maraes, and volcanoes. The land of green, pure beauty that truly inspires. And because I am so torn between these two lands – I shall forever remain cross-eyed.

Synopsis

Being connected to Daemon Black sucks…

Something worse than the Arum has come to town…

The Department of Defense are here. If they ever find out what Daemon can do and that we're linked, I’m a goner. So is he. And there's this new boy in school who’s got a secret of his own. He knows what’s happened to me and he can help, but to do so, I have to lie to Daemon and stay away from him. Like that's possible. Against all common sense, I'm falling for Daemon. Hard.

But then everything changes…

I’ve seen someone who shouldn’t be alive. And I have to tell Daemon, even though I know he’s never going to stop searching until he gets the truth. What happened to his brother? Who betrayed him? And what does the DOD want from them—from me?

No one is who they seem. And not everyone will survive the lies…

Review

Everything between Katy and Daemon has changed now that he healer her changing her into something more. While Daemon may be sure his feelings for her are real and no the bond they now share making him feel that way. He’s determined to prove to her he really does feel for her, and isn’t willing to give up easy. Love is in the air all around Katy with her mother dating a doctor from the hospital as well as Dee seeing Adam for a potential mate. When a new boy shows up in town Katy is drawn to the human normalness that he offers. Even with Blake in the picture Daemon isn’t going to just fade away, he doesn’t trust him as far as he can throw him.

After the massive light display that was seen on the satellite the DOD is in town sniffing around the Luxen but they aren’t the only ones in town. Katy tries to hide her new abilities in attempt to not draw attention to Daemon and his sister but soon it becomes impossible to avoid as she risks being seen by fellow students as well as her mom’s boyfriend. When Katy encounters a Arum without Daemon its Blake who saves her revealing he knows more than he’s let on. When Blake offers to train Katy to use her abilities Daemon isn’t thrilled and wants to train her but she wants to train with Blake because he’s like her. When a ghost from the past catches Katy’s eye and she learns about why the DOD is really here things go south quickly will they all make it out before it’s too late?

I love Katy she’s my favorite character because I see a lot of myself in her aside from the fact I don’t have a green eyed alien. I loved the video in my mail box she does with Daemon. They may fight but in the end they are perfect for each other yin to yang to each other. They have come a long way since the first book and I love seeing their relationship advance. I like that as the books progress the characters grow it makes me love them more. It’s nice to see I’m not the only one who gets behind with my books.

I have had the first four of the Lux series sitting on my bookshelf forever but after the first one they just got forgotten not because they aren’t amazing because the first one was. Just way too many review books on my pile that needed attention. I love the whole Luxen concept and adding the twist of Katy having their abilities was a perfect way to make her badass. Within a few pages of Onyx I was hooked by the book finding it impossible to put down. The book I action packed full of hot guys, aliens, action, romance, and a whole lot of mystery. The whole story is so well written it’s easy to get lost in Katy’s story and lose all track of time. I would have finished the book in one sitting if not for too much real life but I stayed up late to finish. I think the alien concept is still new and exciting with the author’s own unique twists and spins Onyx is a perfect second installment. I can’t wait to see what the series has in store for the next book which I hope to be starting very soon. Onyx is a clean book that teens as well as adults will enjoy. The Lux series is quickly becoming my favorite YA paranormal series I’m just in love with everything about it.

This Week's Question:

Have any pets? Tell us or show us about them

Answer:
I love to talk about my fur babies.
Besides books I love animals. I have a five year old cat who has been a challenge from day one. I got him as a buddy for my other cat who passed away almost a year ago. Smokey has always been very shy and timid but has bonded to me. He will yell at me when it's bed time till I come to bed. He also sleeps on the bed. It's kind of sad but my other cat used to be the boss so Smokey was this anti social boy. Now that he's gone he's a different cat. Well he's as different as he can be.

I got a puppy when we moved on base. Well a little over a year ago I brought home a husky/malamute puppy five weeks old and almost the size of my cats. Grimm is my dream puppy weighing in at 110lbs of awesomeness. He's stubborn, talks a lot, but he's very smart and loyal. He's my first dog not living with roommates who had dogs or at home. He's overwhelmed my hubby because he has such a sassy personality but I wouldn't have it any other way.
For the first year Smokey used to run from him so they developed this chase game. As Grimm got old my silly cat learned that he doesn't want to hurt him just play with him. My puppy is a big softy who just wants to play. They now sleep on the bed together and Smokey isn't afraid of Grimm coming up to him. It's more than I ever expected.

For Smokey's sanity I'm getting another puppy. My hubby said no to another husky because they are crazy but we are getting a blue tick puppy which my hubby picked. One of these will be ours on May 10th. The cat get's a break from the hyper monster puppy.

I can't wait to see all your pets and learn about them.Happy reading!
