Synopsis

They come first.

My vision was growing dimmer, the blackness and ghosts closing in. I swore it was like I could hear Robert whispering in my ear: The world of the dead won't give you up a second time. Just before the light completely vanished, I saw Dimitri's face join Lissa's. I wanted to smile. I decided then that if the two people I loved most were safe, I could leave this world.

The dead could finally have me.

Rose Hathaway has always played by her own rules. She broke the law when she ran away from St. Vladimir's Academy with her best friend and last surviving Dragomir princess, Lissa. She broke the law when she fell in love with her gorgeous, off-limits instructor, Dimitri. And she dared to defy Queen Tatiana, leader of the Moroi world, risking her life and reputation to protect generations of dhampir guardians to come.

Now the law has finally caught up with Rose - for a crime she didn't even commit. She's in prison for the highest offense imaginable: the assassination of a monarch. She'll need help from both Dimitri and Adrian to find the one living person who can stall her execution and force the Moroi elite to acknowledge a shocking new candidate for the royal throne: Vasilisa Dragomir.

But the clock on Rose's life is running out. Rose knows in her heart the world of the dead wants her back...and this time she is truly out of second chances. The big question is, when your whole life is about saving others, who will save you?

Join Rose, Dimitri, Adrian, and Lissa in Last Sacrifice, the epic, unforgettable finale to Richelle Mead's international #1 bestsellingVampire Academy series.

Review

After the queen is murdered stabbed with Roses own stake it’s no surprise when the guardians arrest her. Unlike her other adventures through the last books Rose isn’t the killer and her friends will have to prove that she’s innocent before it’s too late. With Lissa’s help they broke into prison freeing Victor it’s no wonder her friends were able to free her from the guardian prison. While Lissa, Christian, and Adrian stay behind to figure out who framed Rose she heads off with Dimitri and the help of Sydney to avoid being put to death. After all killing the queen is punishable with death and the evidence was piling up against her.

While her friends are busy at court Rose, Dimitri and Sydney are on their own mission hunting down Lissa’s only living relative who will allow for her to sit on the council. Back in court the nominations for the new leader are being selected Lissa is shocked when her friends nominate her as potential queen. While Lissa does the challenges to be eligible for queen the others are looking to figure out who the real killer is.

Rose and Lissa are a great combo they complement each other though out all the books. I think my only real issue is that Rose used Adrian when he’s such a great guy. I’m glad we will see more of him in the Bloodlines series after all he deserves a happy ending. I like the romance intermingled between the couples. I’m happy that Lissa and Christian were able to work it out they were my favorite couple though the whole series. I also really liked we got to see more of Sydney’s personality.

Last Sacrifice is the conclusion to what has been a whirlwind adventure. While I’m sad to see it end it’s nice to know everything turned out for the best. The whole series has been hard to put down to the point I read them all back to back. I loved the characters in the series I was able to connect with them and found myself on Rose’s emotional roller coaster. The Last Sacrifice does a fantastic job of tying up any loose ends from prior books. I won’t lie I’m sad to see it end because I enjoyed it so much. Vampire Academy has quickly climbed up the list stealing the #1 spot for my favorite vampire series. With its unique concept, memorable characters it’s hard not fall in love with it. A must read for anyone who’s into YA vampire stories. I’m already planning to read it again in the future. Loved it!!!! The movie has big shoes to fill.
5 out of 5 stars
