Synopsis

A school for Witchlings...
The ultimate choice between Light and Dark...
Where the price of a mistake...is your soul.
Sixteen-year-old Summer doesn’t expect her new boarding school to be any different than the rest: a temporary stay, until her uncontrollable magic gets her thrown out again. In her mind, there’s no point in getting too friendly with anyone. That is, until she notices Decker, the boy who will become the Master of Night and Fire on his eighteenth birthday.
When she learns that this special school has attracted others with magic in their blood, she is hopeful that this time around, things may be different. Besides, she can’t deny her interest in Decker, and when he rescues her one night from the dark forests of the Rocky Mountains, their connection is instant.
Yet a relationship with Decker may prove to be Summer’s downfall, forcing her to choose between Light and Dark, life and death, love – and their souls.
One choice. One soul. One price.

Review

I received Dark Summer in return for an honest review from the author Lizzy Ford.  Summer’s parents passed away when she was four, when they were unable to locate family she was forced into the system. For years she’s bounced between foster homes landing in an orphanage. Summer is starting a new chapter of her life at a boarding school. However her luck hasn't been good in the past with her magic.

Right from the start Summer learns that it’s not your typical boarding school all the students have magic. Each student will need to choose Light or Dark but dark doesn't mean evil. The First students that Summer meets are the twins Beck and Decker who will become the Master of Light and Master of Night and Fire. Summer hasn't had real friends before so when Dawn attempts to befriend her she’s thrilled, she didn't expect Dawn to have an alternate motive. Summer will be faced with the challenges of learning who she is as well as fighting for the one she loves.

Dark Summer is creative spin on Summer’s life after coming to boarding school. It’s at the school that Summer learns she’s not a freak but fits in with the other Light and Dark students. I love the concept for the light and dark because the dark doesn't mean your evil. Like with Decker he only turned dark because he helped end a woman’s suffering.  Summer is one of those characters who are easy to connect with she’s had a hard life but it’s made her strong but didn't change who she is deep down. She’s your nice girl next door type, which is one of my favorite types of characters. The story is well written it flows from start to finish which is why I lost track of time reading. This is my first Lizzy Ford book but she’s been on my TBR list forever. I look forward to seeing what happens next in Summer’s life.

4 out of 5 stars
