Synopsis
The Great War of 2185 is over, but my nightmare has just begun. I am being held captive in the Queen’s ship awaiting interrogation. My only possible ally is the princess, but I’m unsure if she is really my friend or a trap set by the Queen to fool me into sharing the secret of my gift. A gift I keep hidden even from myself. It swirls inside my body begging for release, but it is the one thing the Queen can never discover. Will I have the strength to keep the secret? I’ll know the answer soon. If the stories are true about the interrogators, I’ll either be dead or a traitor to my people by morning.

Review
I picked up Weighted as a kindle freebie to follow along with The Neumarian Chronicles but was informed to read it after Escapement. Weighted tells the story of how Raeth was captured tortured by the Queens men in hopes of divulging secrets about her people the Neumarian who are people with special abilities. While captured she’s befriended by Semara the daughter of the Queen who just doesn’t have her mother’s cruel streak.  With the help of her new friend she may just be able to escape before it’s too late.

I didn’t see any issues with reading it before or after Escapement it was still nice to see exactly what happened while Raeth was captured. It was fascinating to read to see how Raeth’s mind works and how Semara started out. Weighted is short only 40 pages but while short it really packs a punch. I typically am not a huge fan of Novellas however it was refreshing to get Raeth’s point of view after I had already heard what happened from Semara. I enjoyed the characters even though the short novella wasn’t the happy story it’s another great installment in the Neumarian Chronicles. The author has created a well written captivating series, and I’m looking forward to the next one.
