Synopsis
The emotional and unforgettable new romance from the New York Times bestselling author of the On Dublin Street series.

Alexa Holland’s father was her hero—until her shocking discovery that she and her mother weren't his only family. Ever since, Alexa has worked to turn her life in a different direction and forge her own identity outside of his terrible secrets. But when she meets a man who’s as damaged by her father’s mistakes as she is, Alexa must help him.

Caine Carraway wants nothing to do with Alexa’s efforts at redemption, but it’s not so easy to push her away. Determined to make her hate him, he brings her to the edge of her patience and waits for her to walk away. But his actions only draw them together and, despite the odds, they begin an intense and explosive affair.

Only Caine knows he can never be the white knight that Alexa has always longed for. And when they're on the precipice of danger, he finds he’ll do anything to protect either one of them from being hurt again…

Teaser
“Only one of them is interesting.” He cocked his head, curious. “You are a mystery. Caine won’t tell me where you came from or how he knows you. Naturally I’m intrigued.”
I was sure he was, and I was also sure the last thing I’d ever do was reveal a part of Caine’s tragic history, and frankly I was tied up in that in a way that depressed me. “We met in Hollywood.”
Henry raised an eyebrow. “Hollywood?”
“Mmm-hmm. Boulevard.” I sighed in exaggeration, leaning my chin on my palm in dreamy retrospection. “Oh, those were the days. I was a lowly hooker looking for a white knight, and he was a rich billionaire who didn’t know how to drive a stick. I showed him how and the rest is history.”
Henry frowned. “What?”
“It’s the plot to Pretty Woman,” Caine said dryly. He leaned against the door to his office with something akin to amusement on his face. He pushed off the jamb and gestured to Henry to follow him. “Did I mention my new PA is a smart-ass?”

Review
Alexa has spent the last seven year living with the truth of her father’s lies and what he did to ruin another person’s life. Three months ago her mother passed away leaving Alexa all alone forced to deal with the truth of what her father did alone but she’s dealing with it the best she can. Returning from vacation Alexa shows up at a photo shoot only to learn it’s for Caine the one who’s childhood was ruined by her father. When he doesn’t know who Alexa is she takes it upon herself to tell him the truth causing him to kick her and her boss off the shoot.

After being fired she appeals to him explaining that she’s not like her father hoping that at the very least to fix some of the damage and get her job back. Instead she finds herself working as his personal assistant and she’s determined to have him see her for her not what her family did. As Caine makes her work harder than any PA he’s had prior Alexa is pushed to prove herself but what she finds is more than just a job. While the two can’t deny the physical attraction to each other Caine proposes an affair with no strings attached. Alexa is determined to prove to him that she means more and win over his heart. Will the two find what they need in each other that’s been missing in their lives? What about the secrets that they have been keeping from each other? Will it tear them apart?

I loved Alexa even after everything she’s been through she’s still a strong stubborn woman who I was able to relate too. It’s hard not to like Caine he’s had such a rough life after what he went through as a child. However he’s made the best of it by becoming a successful businessman. However he’s never really let anyone in till Alexa walking in his door and she’s exactly what he needs to learn to love and trust. While Caine may claim he’s not the guy that Alexa is looking for he may just find that he is.

I’ve wanted to read Hero since it came out between the other reviews I’ve seen and the fact that I love author’s other books I knew this one was a must. It was even picked for my book club for this month which was really exciting. Hero my favorite kind of HAE romance because the characters are broken, they each have their own issues which to me makes them feel more real. I was able to connect with the character which is a must for me, and I just loved Alexa and Caine. I really liked how their past brought them together in a way forcing them both out of their comfort zones and finding love. Hero was hard to put down it’s one of those novels that draws you right in, it an emotional roller coaster that I just loved every moment of. Alexa and Caine very well may be my favorite couple of Samantha Young, and I’m looking forward to seeing what she comes up with next. While this is a Romance novel it does have mature language and several steamy moments but I think mature teens and adults will fall in love like I did. Hero is defiantly one of those books I can see myself reading over and over when I’m craving a New Adult novel.
