Top Ten Tuesday!

Top Ten Tuesday!
Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created at The Broke And The Brookish. Who doesn't love lists. They make life easy! And fun!! It's always a never ending topic.

This week's topic:
Top ten things Mandy likes/dislikes when it comes to romances in books

I kind of feel like my list will be on many others lists this week.

dislikes
1. Love Triangles ~ hate them someone always ends up hurt and I don't like that. However I admit some authors have done a tasteful love triangle in the past when no one ends up hurt because we encounter a last minute new love interest.

2. Insta love ~ I hate when we have insta love I prefer my couples to really fall in love. It just doesn't feel natural and I admit on the rare occasion you have insta love but it's in so many books it's not unique anymore.

3. Not enough story ~ I've read a lot of romance books where the romance and steamy parts take over the novel not enough story. I like a fair balance if the romance or steamy parts overpower the story I tend to avoid it. Like Erotica not my thing.

4. Forced Romance ~ when it feels like a chore or they have to be together. The who relationship feels unreal and awkward.

5. Abusive relationships/controlling guys/ uncomfortable situations ~ I tend to avoid these to the best of my ability but I do find them to the best of my ability.

Likes
1. Love/hate ~ when the characters dislike each other but grow to love each other. I like seeing relationships that come from couples that aren't in insta love with each other. I love the way the couples banter back and forth one of my favorites.

2. Broken/flawed couples ~ When two broken/flawed people find each other falling in love and healing each other. This is a common trend with New Adult I'm seeing more and more and I love it. Maybe it's a little emotional issue, tragic past or something else I like seeing less perfect characters.

3. Sweet romance ~ I'm a sucker for a sweet romance. Growing up I read a lot of classic Harlequin books so I have a slightly warped sense of romance.

4. Opposites attract ~ Maybe the hot guy finds the nerdy girl, or hot girl finds the nerdy. I love seeing couples that wouldn't typically be together they move out of their comfort zones.

5. Reunited relationships ~ maybe they were in school together and moved apart. Or they met at a club and it's been years. I like couples finding the one that maybe go away.

What's on your top ten list this week?

  1. Great list! I think my favorite is the reunited relationship. Ok, maybe I'm a little partial to it because I went to middle school with my man and we got together again 20 years later and now have a 3 1/2 year old son :) I do have to admit that I still like a love triangle now and then (if it's done well). I had a little trouble sticking to the topic, so I cheated and it ended up modified. Here's my TTT

  3. We are so alike with this week's list! I am also not a fan of insta-love and love triangles. And I adore opposites attract and reunion storylines. Yeah for romance!
