Most of them are just nuisances, but the Beast who lives in the basement is very dangerous. When Nat goes out one night, a clueless burglar breaks into the house and unwittingly sets the Beast free. Meanwhile, a vicious villain, the Thin Man, wants to use the Beast for his own evil purposes. Can Nat defeat the Thin Man and return the Beast to the basement without any major casualties?
Review
Nat hasn't had
the easiest life, his parents died when he was little and he was put into child
custody. He ends up not in the system as if he never existed and Dahliwahl
takes him home to train him to be a Demon Keeper. When Nat is sixteen Dahliwahl
goes missing leaving Nat in charge of the house and the new Demon Keeper. Nat
has three demons who are his minions which is rare because most Demon Keepers
have one maybe two. Nat lives in the house with Bel a massive English
sheepdog, three minions, and "The Beast" the worst of the Demons in
the basement.
Nat lives with Demons so he's a little socially
awkward when it comes to talking to people, and decides he needs to make some
friends. Nat stops at the local library to pick up a demon book and meets Sandy
a junior librarian. She's instantly interested in his uniqueness and he's super
shy but she gives him her number and he decides to call her. While Nat is
out with Sandy two homeless boys break into his home, and let loose the demon
in the basement. Nat also has to deal with an evil Demonkeeper intent on killing
Nat and taking over his house with the demons. Nat's unlikely trio will band
together to save the house and Nat.
I received this book in return for a honest
review from the authors Publicist. It's a fun fast paced story to draws you in right from the start. It
is however a little on the gory detailed side so young kids or those with
visual imaginations might have a hard time with it. I don't have a issue with
gory in books and the gory stuff kind of made me giggle like the way the author
described the demons eating. I read Demonkeeper in one sitting I wanted
to know what would happen to Nat. It's fun to watch Nat grow as a character
watching him build his relationship with Sandy as well as a friendship with
Richie. I really like the unique aspect with the Demon's instead of a
typical evil demon possession like most books, the author brings a entertaining
fun aspect to the demons you don't see everyday. I look forward to seeing what
the next book entails.
Descriptions taken from the book of the three minions:
Pernicious - green, shin-high, schnauzer-snouted gargoyle with long, slender ears that stood straight up and paws that were as nimble and delicate as those of a raccoon. Oversized fangs jutted out from beneath its upper lip like twin daggers
Nikolai - a thick little brute with rounded shoulders, stocky legs, and heavy eyebrows. He was shaped like a miniature Russian weightlifter, but his peaked ears and pointed muzzle lined with equally pointed teeth belied his demonic essence. Nik was only eight inches tall, but as he walked his footsteps echoed about the room, ten times larger in sound than he was in size.
Flappy - a wind demon, the incarnation of swirling gusts the aimless, spasmodic sort that sent children’s kites into trees. wind demons could grow massive in the wild. They were known to down airplanes and violently send ships to their watery graves. undersized reptilian wings parrot-sized dragon
