Karma’s a bitch…and her name’s Cassie.

Working for Karma Incorporated might sound like the best job in the world, but there’s one really big catch: you’ve got to die to get it. Cassandra Mercer died at the ripe old age of twenty-one and is now gainfully employed by the Afterlife Corporation as a Karma operative. Her job duties include manifesting bad karma on unsuspecting victims.

Two months into her internship Cassie is promoted and given her first solo case. His name is Bishop and he is a cheat. He needs some bad karma, and Cassie’s the right girl for the job.

Inflicting a bit of payback on this cheat should be easy for Cassie, so she gets permission from her boss to do a little investigating on her own time. Investigating into her living life, the one she can’t seem to remember. The only problem, she is forbidden from doing the digging herself. Afterlife Corporation rule. She can hire someone to look into it for her, though, and that someone turns out to be Drake Greco. She regrets her decision the moment she walks into his office…

Review
Cassie died but unlike most it took a year for her to show up in processing and be given the choice of limbo or working for the Afterlife Corporation. Obviously, she doesn’t want to do the time in limbo so she agree’s to work off the time as one of Karma Incorporated’s newest recruit. Cassie may just be a little too good at her job because what should have had her in training for at least a year has her out in the field with her first case after only two months. Her job is simple to return to Earth and create Karma to help change a person’s life for the better. Only Cassie has one little problem she can’t remember what happened to her and when she returns to Earth she seeks out someone to find out what happened to her. While she may not look like herself anymore diving into her past may just blow her cover and reveal more than she bargained for.

I like Cassie she’s very good at delivering Karma in her own unique way using her intuition to make it all work out just the way it needed to. However, she can’t let her past go even though she’s moved on and finding out what really happened to her is important even if it’s against the rules. I admit I’m intrigued by Drake there is something about him I just haven’t figure out what it is yet but I see an interesting connection to Cassie that changing her looks may not break off.

I’ve had my eye on this one for a while, the cover has been calling my name. I love the concept for the Karma Incorporated it all makes sense now and I almost wonder if the author has it all figured out. The idea that the Afterlife Corporation exists with ties to the world on earth is fascinating. I’ve not read a book by the author yet but I loved her writing style it’s smooth and easy to get lost in Cassie’s story. I enjoyed the characters it was easy to connect with Cassie and I can’t wait to see how her story unfolds in the next chapter as well as what really happened to her. This is a quick fast paced hard to put down the story that captures the imagination.
