Review
Katie life has hit a wall, she’s worked at the same bakery for the last three years but they still won’t let her use her creative ideas. As if that’s not bad her ex-fiancĂ© seems to be around every corner and she needs a change. When her aunt and Uncle talk about opening a bakery Katie is quick to join them packing up her things and moving to Savannah to start a new life.  Katie is excited about having the chance to use her own recipes that she created with her aunt Lucy but notices she seems to be adding herbs to the food.

When they take on a meeting for the town business group at the last minute they have to scrabble to get ready in time. The meeting goes well everyone seems to enjoy the food but when it comes time to pay them the lady in charge refuses to pay the agreed upon amount and leaves in a huff. Only to be found shortly later in her car murdered right outside the bakery. Next thing Katie knows Uncle Ben is the murder suspect in her death and her Aunt drops the bombshell she’s a witch. It’s up Katie and her Aunts spell book club to find the real killer as well as learn to be a witch before it’s too late.

I loved Katie right from the start I found little bits of myself in her which made connecting with her super easy. She’s not perfect which I found refreshing I like characters that grow as the book progresses and she does beautifully. Katie has two potential love interests in the story Declan the firefighter and Steve the reporter each one has its own qualities. I also really liked the Spell book club girls they made me laugh and think they are perfect for Katie.

I have had this on my TBR list since it first came out just never seemed to get around to it and when it fit the challenge I jumped at the chance to read it. The characters are easy to connect with I found myself giggling throughout the book. Brownies and Broomsticks is a cozy mystery that mixes a bakery with magic throw in a dead body, a little humor and you have a win. I was so captivated by the book I had a hard time putting it down I wanted to know what would happen next. I had to get up early just to see how it would end. The idea of the magical Bakery is super cute and the author did a fantastic job writing the story I feel like I was there in the Honeybee Bakery. I can’t wait to read the rest of the series it’s on my must read list. I even want my own little bakery I can only imagine what my husband will say. Also check out the recipes at the end of the book I know I’m going to be.
4 out of 5 stars
