Review

I received Red Queen in return for an honest review from the publisher via Edelweiss. Mare lives in a world where the color of your blood determines your future either a poor worker or a superhuman living the good life. Mare is a red which means either she has a trade job or she will be sent to join the army like her brothers have all gone. Mare has a unique skill she’s an excellent pick pocket which has helped them get buy plus her little sister is training to sew cloth. When her childhood friend loses his apprenticeship he’s now being sent off to the army Mare comes up with a plan to steal from a silver something with enough value to pay for him to be smuggled. What should be easy quickly turns back and he sister is injured losing all chances of being able to sew again.

When everything seems desperate she makes one more

attempt to pick pocket a strange but ends up caught surprisingly he gives her the money because she clearly needs it more. Everything changes the next day when the guards show up to take her to the palace fearing the worst Mare is shocked to be offered a job as a servant. When her simple servant job should be easy quickly turns deadly when Mare falls onto the lightning shield and doesn’t die but can control lightning. Quickly nick named the lightning girl the king and queen decide to marry her off to their younger son and keep her red blood a secret.

As if being Mare isn’t hard enough she has to keep herself from bleeding which will reveal who she really is not the silver she’s pretending to be. Learning to be a princess isn’t easy but joining in the scarlet guard to free the red’s from being under the silver’s control. Finding an unlikely friendship with her future husband the prince they team up to rise against the king and change the future for the Reds. However Mare doesn’t just have one prince’s attention but the older future king as well who happens to be someone she’s met before. Will she follow her heart or choose to go with what is right? Will they save the reds?

I loved Mare she’s one of those characters you can’t help liking with a good heart who cares about her family and few friends. While being a red hasn’t been easy she’s made the best with what she has and done what it takes me it work. I like how she embraces her lightning abilities and uses them to her advantage. I wasn’t sure about the love triangle it’s a tough one but I think the author executes it will and I’m curious to see how it will play out in the new book between Mare and her future love interest.

I’ve been dying to get my hands on Red Queen so when I saw the chance I accepted a copy for review knowing I had to read it. Red Queen reminds me a lot of The Selection and Pawn which happen to be two of my favorite series so it’s only natural that I would love the book. The concept while interesting is a recurring theme in dystopian novels but I think the author does a fantastic job of putting her own unique spin creating an exciting new story.  I thought the characters where well developed and easy to connect with I loved Mare and look forward to more of her story. Red Queen is an action packed whirlwind novel that captures the heart as well as the imagination with hints of mystery and romance. The author has done well creating a complex story that I enjoyed every moment of it from start to finish. May just be my new favorite dystopian series and I can’t wait to read the next one. I loved Red Queen it's a must for all fans of The Selection and Pawn.

Review

Cruel Crown is the prequels that accompany Red Queen giving us an insight into the past two unique female characters.

Queen Song

The first is the story about Coriane a silver with a poor family who would be happy to be a mechanic but captures the attention of the future King. Coriane has always kept her thoughts to herself when around the Royals because they can read her thoughts. When an unlikely friendship develops between her and the future Kings he didn’t expect to be chosen as his bride.

Steel Scars

Next we have Farley who is one of the Scarlet Guard working for freedom and equality between the silvers and the Reds. Farley is a Red who’s worked to build up the Scarlet Guard putting everything in motion so that the rebellion will be able to rise against the silvers. We are given more of an insight into what she’s had to go through to get things to where they are. We are given an insight into the Scarlet guard as well as an insight into Farley’s past and what’s made her into who she is.  

I really liked getting a chance to know Coriane since she’s not a character other than a name in Red Queen. I found her easy to connect with and wishing she wasn’t a late Queen because if she hadn’t died things very well may have been different. She was my favorite of the two her story is very Cinderella and I liked it but we all know how it ends. We also had a little glimpse of Elara the future Queen which I found interesting. I feel bad that I didn’t connect with Farley because I really wanted too. She’s had a rough life and is leading a rebellion that will change everything. I liked her but I just didn’t love her and maybe that’s because I didn’t really connect with her in Red Queen. Maybe that will change with the next one. Both short novellas are each unique and interesting in its own right. If anything I can’t wait to read Glass Sword even more.

Review

Ari is one of four heirs who could potentially take over should something happen to the Red Queen of the wolf shifters. Wolf shifters can live for hundreds of years, as the queen, she is the most powerful shifter, the one who controls the mecca protecting all her people. When suddenly the queen is found murdered it’s time for the heirs to battle it out in the summit proving they have what it takes to be queen. However, aside from proving she has what it takes to become Queen Ari needs to find out who killed the Red Queen as well as who attacked the heirs. It’s while the summit is going on that they learn the bear shifters also sustained similar attacks, but the bears have an idea who attacked them. 

After a series of tasks, Ari comes out the winner becoming the next queen who will control the mecca and save her people. At her coronation the bear King proves that instead of being an enemy, he will a powerful ally, doesn’t hurt that Ari finds him as attractive as he does her. Together with the help of her new ally the two powerful shifters set out working together to figure out what is looming in the shadows. Will working with the bear King unite the two once-warring shifters? Will Ari and Kade be able to deny the connection they feel for each other? What is really looming in the swirling water? 

I adore Ari she’s a strong leader willing to lead instead of being in the back of the battle so when the time comes for her to fight she does just that and protects those she loves. I like Kade a lot for her a potential relationship goes against everything she’s been taught but maybe now as Queen, she can make some changes. Ari has a close-knit group of friends from her advisor, her magic bound, as well as her familiar and loyal guards. I’ve got high hopes for Ari and Kade as the series progress’s I’m rooting for them. 

I’ve had my eye on this one since I first caught a glimpse of the cover I knew I had to read it. I’m a huge fan of shifter novels so I knew Queen’s Heir was a must that I had to read right away and it doesn’t disappoint if anything it exceeds my expectations. While the concept is very urban fantasy with shifters that’s where the similarities end a unique take on my favorite concept. The authors did a beautiful job weaving a captivating story from start to finish that I could really sink my teeth into. The characters are perfectly balanced easy to connect with and you can’t help cheering them on as I did. A perfect blend of world, action, story and just a smidge of romance to leave you wanting more. My only complaint is that I have to wait for the next one as this one was impossible to put down. I’ve only read a few books by one of the authors before but I can’t wait to check out their other books as I loved this one so much. A beautiful cover to match a beautiful story that I highly recommend for fans of shifters and fantasy. 

Book Review: Queen Alpha

Arianna might have won the Summit and taken the crown of wolf shifters, but there is no time for her to settle into the royal life. 
Something is off with the mecca and if she doesn’t fix it the fae might just make another earth side appearance. 
Now she must work with the king of the bears to save both of their people. Which is easier said than done when he tempts her in every way and a relationship between them is forbidden. One slip up could cost her everything and in the NYC mecca someone is always watching. 

Review

Queen Alpha is the second novel in the NYC Mecca series. Starting not long after the end of the first book Ari may be Queen after winning the summit but it doesn't mean that she's safe. She still needs to find out what happened to the Red Queen as well as stop the fae who are determined to end her life. However, that's not all she has on her plate she needs to figure out how to send the Mecca back into the fae world and restore the balance of their two worlds.  

At least she doesn't have to do it alone with Kade the king of the bear shifters she's formed an alliance with. The more time Ari spends with Kade the harder it is for her to deny the attraction she's feeling for him but it's unheard of for wolf shifters and bear shifters to be together. Forced to squish rumors that are floating around about them she decided to take a wolf mate but Kade isn't so willing to let her go. As the pair attempt to save the world that they know they learn that may not know the truth about their past. Will the truth change it all? Will they save their world? 

I like Ari she's a strong independent young Queen who is willing to do anything to protect and save her people even if it means risking herself in the process. I love Kade for her way more than I should but while they may be different their love story started long ago and they are just perfect for each other. They provide just the right amount of balance for each other and their gift work together. I have high hopes that they will get a happy ever after but you never really know. 

I loved the first one Queen Heir so much and couldn't wait to get my hands on Queen Alpha but decided to wait till the third one was out. I'm a huge fan of strong female alpha werewolves because they are typically the men who are the leaders. I love the concept for the shifters, and the magic born shifter it's a interesting spin on the shifter concept. The authors have written a beautiful story that captures the heart as well as the imagination, a action packed, supernaturally charged story that keeps the reader on the edge of their seat. This isn't my first book by these authors but I'm becoming a quick fan they both have a unique voice and work so well together. I enjoyed every page of Queen Alpha and couldn't wait to see what happens next, I've already got the third book on my kindle and look forward to seeing how it will play out. Highly recommend to those who are fans of young adult shifter fantasy. I loved Queen Alpha so much!!!!

 Review

Ari's best friend Violet has been captured by the Winter court and the only way to save her is to travel into the Otherworld and rescue her. Together with her mate, a few of her wolves, her familiar and a magic born they risk their lives to travel just through the portal into the Otherworld. Since losing her crown to her rival she's been banned from her home, and using the mecca to jump worlds will paint a target on her back. 

Having successful arrived in the Otherworld they split up hoping to draw less attention as they journey towards the Winter Court. Finding Unlikely allies among the fae as well as finding friendship among the Summer court. However, rescuing Violet won't be the only challenge she will learn that she's not just a shifter like she always thought and the secrets that the Red Queen kept hidden are about to come out. Will they make it out with everyone and back to the New York? Or will the Winter Queen get what's she wants and Ari to turn over her very soul. 

I love Ari she's a sweetheart caring about her people before herself even her own guards who are to protect her. I love Kade he's a perfect match for her they complement each other in every aspect and they will change the shifter world forever. We've gotten to know a little more about Ari's friends that like her they would risk it all to save her which I think proves that she's meant to be Queen. 

I've been putting this off because I know the end is coming and I love the series so much. This installment was intense lots of action as Ari and Kade risked it all to save her friend. We even get a little bit of sweet romance between our duo when they have some downtime. The authors have created a exciting new shifter world that captures the heart as well as the imagination. Every installment has been hard to put down I read Queen Fae in just a single afternoon I had to know how it was going to end. I can't wait to get my hands on the next book and see how it will all play out. I loved the story and each installment just keeps getting better and better becoming one of my favorite shifter series. Highly recommend.

I didn't have very many books I didn't enjoy this year. I guess I just did a lot of really good picking this round. 

 3. Most surprising (in a good way or bad way) book you read? 
Fatal Beauty by Nazarea Andrews was so not what I expected when I started it. Super surprising but in a very good way. It was wow. The cover was what captured my attention.

 4. Book You “Pushed” The Most People To Read (And They Did)?
I pushed Red Queen & A Court of Thorns and Roses the most. 

 5. Best series you started in 2015? Best Sequel of 2015? Best Series Ender of 2015?

Best series I started - The Collector by Victoria Scott - I have read the first I still need to finish it. 
Best Sequel - Lust by Alyssa Rose Ivy  - Impatiently waiting for the next one. 
Best series Enders - The Last Ever After by Soman Chainani - I was so sad to see it end but it did end well. 

 6. Favorite new author you discovered in 2015?
My favorite new author of 2015 would be Talon by Julie Kagawa. I've got several of her books but never started one till Talon which I loved. 
  
7. Best book from a genre you don’t typically read/was out of your comfort zone?
 The best book out of my comfort zone would be....none. I was kind of boring this year not straying to far from my typical genre. I do plan to read a few next year. 

 8. Most action-packed/thrilling/unputdownable book of the year?
 The Great Zoo of China by Matthew Reilly was action packed loaded with thrilling moments that kept me on the edge of my seat. It was an amazing book and I can totally see myself reading it again. 

 9. Book You Read In 2015 That You Are Most Likely To Re-Read Next Year?
I typically tend to wait a few years before doing a re-read so I can't think at the moment of any that I plan to re-read next year.

Dream a little Dream by Kerstin Gier - A captivating story with a stunning cover. 

11. Most memorable character of 2015?
I would have to say Tate & Miles from Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover. It doesn't help it's one of my favorites and I can't wait to see the movie next year. 

 12. Most beautifully written book read in 2015?
 Confess by Colleen Hoover is one of the most beautifully written book I read in 2015. It is so well done in true Colleen Hoover fashion. 


13. Most Thought-Provoking/ Life-Changing Book of 2015?
I typically stay in fiction and haven't read any non-fiction so I would have to choose The Law of Moses by Amy Harmon. It was one of those books I read in a day it captured my heart. Well written. 

 14. Book you can’t believe you waited UNTIL 2015 to finally read? 
 Tiger's Curse by Colleen Houck - My first book by the author and I can't believe I waited so long. Plus side I don't have to wait for the next book in the series for a while.

“And then of course there’s sex. Lots and lots of sex.”
Caine’s fork clattered to his plate. He looked vaguely ill.
The snort I was trying to hold back bubbled up out of me and then Effie started cackling with laughter. It was infectious. I couldn’t stop my own from joining hers.

 Fatal Beauty by Nazarea Andrews fit's this one to because while reading it I had a bunch of omg open mouth moments.

 Daisy & Owen totally meant to be....they fit the OTP perfectly.

 Whiteout by Nikki Jefford Aurora and Dante they may have been romantic but it's just friends now. 

20. Favorite Book You Read in 2015 From An Author You’ve Read Previously
I've read most of Alyssa Rose Ivy's books and Soar is the most recent which I enjoyed.  

21. Best Book You Read In 2015 That You Read Based SOLELY On A Recommendation From Somebody Else/Peer Pressure:
Ready Player One by Ernest Cline was suggested and actually my book club read the book. We all loved it, with it's 80's pop culture it was very enjoyable.

22. Newest fictional crush from a book you read in 2015?
I don't have fictional crushes. I married my soulmate. 

23. Best 2015 debut you read?
I love debut novels and this years best one was Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard. I love it so much can't wait for the new one. 

24. Best Worldbuilding/Most Vivid Setting You Read This Year?
Cruel Beauty by Rosamund Hodge I felt had some great world building. It was a interesting world that our characters lived in. 

25. Book That Put A Smile On Your Face/Was The Most FUN To Read?
 Nuts by Alice Clayton was a lot of fun. My husband kept asking me why I was giggling or blushing through most of the story. 

26. Book That Made You Cry Or Nearly Cry in 2015?
 November 9 by Colleen Hoover but all her books make me cry. 

27. Hidden Gem Of The Year?
 Ella, The Slayer by A.W. Exley - I've not seen a lot of hype but this one for being not well know was a unique spin on a classic. 

28. Book That Crushed Your Soul?
 Dawn by Alyssa Rose Ivy because it's over. At least her characters always seem to come back. 

29. Most Unique Book You Read In 2015?
 Attack on Titan by Hajime Isayama my first ever Manga and it rocked.

Fifty Shades of Grey by E.L. James this one still frustrates me even though it was February when I originally read it. However the movie wasn't bad.

 All of them? Does that sound conceited? I'm my own worst critic so I'm over critical of my reviews to start I couldn't pic a favorite.

 I haven't taken part of any events this year. Lots of tours and reviews but being shy keeps me from these.

 Burning Glass by Kathryn Purdie - I like the cover and the synopsis sounds exciting.

 I don't want to think of a series I love ending. However Mercy Thompson's new book Fire Touched by Patricia Briggs will be out in March just in time for my Birthday.

That's a tough one. It all depends on the genre that they enjoy. For example at my book club Friday night I recommended Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard to one of the girls who liked The Selection Series. I admit it is one of my favorites and I would suggest it to just about everyone. I try to suggest books to those who enjoy the particular genre. I have to admit that I have recommended Red Queen to so many people I have yet to have my copy in the house for more than a few hours.
