Synopsis
One kiss could be the last.

Seventeen-year-old Layla just wants to be normal. But with a kiss that kills anything with a soul, she's anything but normal. Half demon, half gargoyle, Layla has abilities no one else possesses.

Raised among the Wardens—a race of gargoyles tasked with hunting demons and keeping humanity safe—Layla tries to fit in, but that means hiding her own dark side from those she loves the most. Especially Zayne, the swoon-worthy, incredibly gorgeous and completely off-limits Warden she's crushed on since forever.

Then she meets Roth—a tattooed, sinfully hot demon who claims to know all her secrets. Layla knows she should stay away, but she's not sure she wants to—especially when that whole no-kissing thing isn't an issue, considering Roth has no soul.

But when Layla discovers she's the reason for the violent demon uprising, trusting Roth could not only ruin her chances with Zayne… it could brand her a traitor to her family. Worse yet, it could become a one-way ticket to the end of the world.

Review
Layla isn’t a normal Warden like those she’s spent most of her life growing up with but only half of a Warden. Unlike the rest of the Wardens Layla doesn’t half a gargoyle form but that is because she’s not a pure blood and half demon. Layla has worked hard to suppress her demon side striving to be a Warden even though she doesn’t have a shift by tagging the demons for them. However being a tagger has finally caught up to her and demons are now hunting her.

Layla finds herself saved by a demon her age that is determined to protect her at all costs from the other demons. Layla is forced to keep her friendship with Roth a secret because it goes against everything the Wardens stand for. As she spends more time with Roth she starts to learn about her birth parents, why she’s being hunted and maybe not all the demons are as bad as she expected. As the truth starts to come out and secrets are revealed where will Layla’s alliance be after she is attacked by a Warden only to be saved by a demon?

I love Layla but she’s a JLA character so really how could I not love her. I adore Layla she’s grown up her whole life living with the heroes who fight the demons but now she’s forced to question everything. I wasn’t sure about Roth at first but as the book progressed he proved that he’s protecting her for the right reason even if the Wardens are sure he will betray her. I also like Zayne who’s expected to be with another Warden even though he has feelings for Layla and she’s been in love with him forever. Ugh I hate love triangles so much someone always gets hurt.

I have come to have high expectations with a Jennifer L. Armentrout book so White Hot Kiss had some big shoes to fill. I wasn’t disappointed in the least it was better than I expected. I truly love the concept for the Wardens in part because it’s so unique the idea of gargoyles reminds me of the cartoon only modern day. The whole idea was captivating it was a fast paced novel filled with action, mystery, romance and just enough suspense to keep me on the edge of my seat. I love the characters even though we have a love triangle it was easy to connect with Layla. I also really love the authors writing style it’s a well written story that is easy to get lost in. I actually finished the whole book in one day it was hard to put down. I already have the next to so I can see how it will all play out, can’t wait.
