Synopsis
This is the story of Teague and Cailin, two teenagers who have been brought together by fate. Teague, a human, struggles to come to terms with the consequences of a recent accident that has destroyed the happy life that he had once enjoyed. Cailin, a pixi, is trying to stay true to herself while fighting against forces beyond her control that have exiled her from her home into this strange world of humans. She fears the darkness. He cannot escape it. But when the two of them are thrown together, they begin to discover the light inside of themselves.

“I suppose not. Of course I never figured Cailin to be the type of girl who likes dolls. Whatever, if she likes them then I guess it makes sense to get her stuff for them. Not that I know the first thing about dolls and their clothes.”
“Wait, you want to get her clothes?” Owen asked, relieved that his son had come this conclusion on his own.
“Well what the hell else should I get her? A pink convertible? I don’t give a damn; I just want to get out of here. This place smells weird.”
“You could get her a jacket,” a small female voice came from below. Teague lowered his chin, though he couldn’t see anything and Owen smiled gently at the small girl who was standing in between them with a serious expression.
“What did you say?” Owen asked with actual interest.
“It’s still cold. Dollies need jackets,” she offered with the wisdom that only a small child could possess. “And sweaters.” She nodded seriously at the tall pair before picking a bright and colorful dress off of the shelf and running to what must have been her mother.
Review
I received Oath of Servitude in return for a honest
review from the author C.E. Wilson. Cailin is trying to stay true to who she is
but keeps running into roadblocks by the elders. When treated with the darkness
her father decides that being sent to live with a human for a year would be a
fitting punishment. Cailins father had been saved a long time ago one winter
when a human boy had found him dying in the snow. The boy Owen saved his life
by taking him home and nursing him back to health, when he could return to his
family. Now that his oldest daughter is threatened to be sent to the darkness a
punishment that could break her he makes for her to live with the humans.
It’s been years Owen is no longer the boy but he has his own
teenager who is also having a tough time after an accident that left him blind.
Teague feels like he’s lost everything by being blind, he won’t see a therapist
or his friends instead all he does is get drunk in his room. With the addition
to Cailin in his home Owen hopes that she will be able to pull Teague out of
his depression and to start living again. As the pair deal with their own hiccups
as Cailin keeps being a pixi a secret and Teague deals with being blind. The
connection between the two starts to grow as Teague starts to get better. But
the news that her sister is in danger cause secrets to come out that could
change everything.
I loved Oath of Servitude the storyline was a pleasant surprise.
I was a little nervous but I was easily drawn into the story, you can’t help
wanting to know more. The characters are
so likeable you can’t help not liking them, even when Teague is so angry. I was
intrigued by the relationship between Teague and Cailin it’s unique but so
sweet they kind both need each other. My favorite part was when Teague was
shopping for doll clothes thinking that Cailin has a doll she plays with when
the truth was they were buying her clothes. I couldn’t put the book down it one
of the best pixie/fey stories I’ve read this year I just really loved the
characters they seem so real and my heart went out to both of them. It’s just a
very well written book that flows smoothly allowing anyone teen to adult to
enjoy it. I can’t wait to get my hands on the next book.
5 out of 5 stars
