Waiting on Wednesday

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by
Jill at Breaking The Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases we're eagerly anticipating.

This has always been my favorite weekly because it allows me to seek out new books coming in the future.

This week I picked a book based on the cover but the synopsis is equally as amazing. Isn't that cover captivating!

Into Their Woods by Ivy Asher and Ann Denton
Expected Publication - October 20th 2023

Synopsis

I thought my fated mate would cherish me. Mine kills me in cold blood.

After a decade of bullying me, the Alpha Heir discovers I’m his predestined mate. But just because he rejects me in front of the whole pack doesn’t mean he’s going to let me go.

When I flee my fated mate, he gives chase. The Alpha Heir would sooner murder me than let me live out of his reach.

Only death isn’t the end for me. The afterlife is a bit more fiery than I pictured, but that’s fine. I’m used to fighting to survive, and literal Hell just might be a step up from what I’ve been dealing with.

Even if that means facing off against minotaurs and murderous mermaids.

Even if, when I find refuge in a seemingly abandoned castle, I find the most dangerous creature in the underworld.

The good news: He agrees to train me, so I’ll never be left weak and at the mercy of another.

The bad news: His training methods involve a variety of unconventional methods, such as infiltrating my dreams and pinning me beneath him when we spar.

The worst news: He’s never going to let me leave his castle.

Forsaken Mate is a fresh retelling of Hades and Persephone with shifters, betrayal, and spice.

Review

I received The Name Drop in return for an honest review from the publisher Inkyard Press.

Elijah has it all the rich family, the bright future, he's never had to work for anything in his life and this summer is no expectation as he is trained to step into his fathers shoes. Which is the last thing that Elijah wants. Jessica has worked hard for everything and when she get's an internship for her fathers company she's hoping it will give her the bump she needs to further her future. Due to a mistaken identity Elijah and Jessica end up in each others roles what will happen when they figure out the mistake?

I loved both Jessica and Elijah right form the start they are just characters I really felt like I could connect with. I really love stories where we are given both pov because Elijah's story was just as important as Jessica's. I love the chemistry between the pair while they come from different worlds they found common ground to bond on it was very sweet.

The Name Drop is a lovely story it captured my attention right from the start and I wasn't able to put it down till the last page. I ended up devouring it in just one afternoon because I was so invested in the characters and the story. I ended up in a little book hangover because I didn't want it to end I wasn't ready to say goodbye just yet to the pair.

This is my first book by the author but I'm obsessed I loved every moment of The Name Drop. The characters are easy to connect with I just loved them all even the side characters. The author has a beautiful way of creating a captivating story that captures the heart. I loved every moment of The Name Drop and can't wait to read more from the author. One of my favorite books of 2023 it was just perfectly done.

Synopsis

I'm the half-demon vigilante out to punish bad men and demons. So can anyone tell me how the hell I ended up getting myself a date with the Devil?

The name's Lady, and I'm the half-demon hand of justice determined to send every bad bro and gross demon back to Hell where they belong--and in the most painful way possible. It was a good gig before Nova showed up, my dream demon stalker. Now thanks to my history of crappy luck and shady demon blood, I've lost everything.

Demons are seriously bad news, and this Nova jerk isn't any different. But lucky for him, our endgame is the same. So, I've teamed up with the very thing I hunt to dethrone the wicked witch ruling the dark underworld. Let's hope I live to celebrate it because the road to Hell is paved with sinful temptation and deep, dark secrets.

Review

I received Lady of Hell & Fury in return for an honest review from the author.

Lady's childhood was rough but it wasn't till she was 17 that she realized her potential to punish bad men and demons. She's had to be strong to keep fighting and even found some companionship among the Shadow Stalkers an organization that hunts demons. However, everything changed the night she met Nova a green eyed demon. Suddenly she's dragged into a battle of good vs evil. Will she come out successful?

I love Lady she's just so easy to connect with she is exactly what I wanted for a bad-ass demon hunter. I love that we got to learn a little more about her past that made her who she is today. I love a strong female main character who's out to save the world one demon at a time. I wasn't sure about Nova at first they have this steamy sizzling chemistry that just works so well. The more we got to know Nova the more I just love him suit wearing demon and all.

This is my first book by the author but I knew the moment I saw the cover I just had to read Lady's story and I'm so glad that I had the chance. This story is a fast paced action packed adventure sprinkled with romance and steamy scenes that keep you hooked from the very beginning. I couldn't put it down I had to know what would happen next and see it all play out.

The author has done a beautiful job creating engaging characters and a story that captures the heart as well as the imagination. I devoured Lady of Hell & Fury over just a couple of days it was hard to put down and if not for real life I would have finished it in one day. I loved every moment of the book even when it made me cry a few times. All I can say is Fable...I can't wait for the next one to see what happens next.

Submit (Nothing Lasts Forever #1)
  Publication Date: July 24, 2023
  Genre: Romantic Suspense/ Romance
Tropes: Age Gap Broody Possessive Alpha Fated Mates/ Star Crossed Lovers Tasteful Spice

When I first met Willem, he swept me off my feet. I was pursued. Adored.

But over time, I began to give in to all of Will’s desires and demands and lost sight of who I was. Whenever I felt like I could finally break free… he would find a way to reel me back in.

That’s how I ended up here, in Aruba. With a fiancé who’s never around and a lonely, solitary existence filled with cooking meals and keeping house.

Meeting Casper was a pleasant surprise. With his brilliant green eyes, tanned skin, and brooding demeanor, I find myself irresistibly drawn into his orbit again and again. Without even trying, he makes me feel seen for the first time in years.

Maybe it’s the way he corrects my stance on the kite board. Maybe it’s the side glances he thinks I don’t catch. But the more time I spend with him, the more closed-off he becomes – and the more I want to break through his tough exterior.

When Will and I’s relationship takes a turn for the worse, Casper helps me escape my prison. But I never expected the secrets that would be exposed… or the danger that’s about to come for us both.

In over my head, I quickly realize that at least one more time, I will have to submit to someone else’s control.

Review

I received Submit in return for an honest review as part of the tour hosted by R&R Book Tours.

In the beginning everything was perfect but her workaholic fiancee is never around forcing Libby to spend a lot of her time alone. When the opportunity presents itself they up and move to Aruba which starts a new adventure but she ends up being alone. When she decides to take up kite surfing she meets a man who changes everything. As secrets are uncovered she learns that things aren't always as they appear.

I like Libby she's just a sweetheart she stuck it out for so long trying to make it work with Will but eventually she accepted the fact that it wasn't going to work. I love Casper he's such a great character to complement Libby and just what she needs too. They have this steamy sweet chemistry that just works and is sizzling. I wasn't a fan of Will but what can you expect he's not the right guy.

I ended up reading Submit over the course of two days it would have been quicker but real life seemed to get in the way but I kept picking it up every chance I could. I really like that the story took place in Aruba which brings a whole new world of the cartel's and with the dark Dutch elements I found the concept fascinating. I love a darker steamy romance and Submit has a perfect mix of both with a sprinkling a action

This is my first book by the author and I'm hooked on her writing style just flows it's easy to get swept up into the story. Submit has great characters and a captivating story that captures the heart as well as the imagination. I truly enjoyed every moment of the book it kept me on the edge of my seat till the very end. I can't wait to continue Libby and Caspers story as it continues in the next book.

Jillian has worked in the healthcare industry for over 10 years. With no formal education in creative writing, she sat down one night during the pandemic to give her mind a break from facts and sterile objectivity. In doing so, she discovered a love for losing herself in a story all her own. Even though she continues to work her “regular” job, she’s always planning, plotting, and scheming for ways to make her next characters fall in love.

Her characters are inspired by people she has met over the years and their stories could happen to anyone. Realistic, flirty, quick reads are what you’ll get when you crack open one of her novels.

When she isn’t working or writing, you can find her in her garden, on a plane, or 50ft below the surface of the ocean breathing bubbles and chasing fish. She currently resides in North Carolina with her husband and three stepkids.

Synopsis

For years, Sia’s hidden herself in the gnashing forest, dodging her father’s bounty hunters and ignoring the nameless magic in her veins. When she receives a letter from an estranged lover, she returns to the coast she used to call home, within reach of her father’s magical city hovering above the smog and the arranged marriage waiting for her. This place is not somewhere Sia wishes to linger—the land is noxious and filled with rebels, witches, and other humans who become walking corpses when they die. What was intended to be a brief visit turns into a death-bed promise anchoring Sia to Gwaith House for the foreseeable future. She agrees to look after her first love’s human child until her widower proves he can care for his daughter himself.

The thing with promises is: Sia can’t break them. No seraph can. At least, not without severe consequences.

While navigating the complex feelings she develops for the angry widower and her own grief, Sia becomes entangled in a mysterious string of dismembered corpses roaming the smog and a strange detective who refuses to leave her alone. As the desperate undead draw closer and closer to the child she is sworn to protect, Sia races to find the murderer responsible for creating them. She needs to figure it out quickly, or she may risk falling right back into her father’s scorching hands.

Review

I received The Seldom Wings in return for an honest review as part of the tour hosted by R&R Book Tours.

Sia is on a mission to figure out her abilities but while hunting for the answers she receives a message from the past requesting she return. Upon returning she finds her friend and former lover Tova needs her now more than ever. Sia is asked to make a promise that she can't break and take care of her daughter. She stays at Gwaith House with her former lovers husband and his new wife but threats are looming in every direction. Will her father get his hands on her or will something else more sinister capture her.

I really enjoyed Sia as a character she's this badass character who is morally grey but still very good in her heart. Willing to do what's right even if it's wrong and risks her own life. She's also very loyal to those who she cares about. I found the concept for the seraph interesting how they are broken into different races based on where they lived. I liked Destin the more we get to know him the more I see why Tova loved him so much.

I was instantly captivated by Sia's story right from the first few pages and I was hooked till the very last page. I devoured The Seldom wings in just two reading sessions because real life decided to get in the way. The characters are easy to connect with you just have to love even if they make you want to yell at the book.

This is my first book by the author but I'm hooked she has a beautiful style of storytelling which made The Seldom Wings hard to put down. The story balances the action with just the right amount of spice creating a captivating story that sparks the heart as well as the imagination. I loved every moment of Sia's story she's such a kick-ass character and I found her so refreshing and I just loved her. I can't wait for the next book in the series because I wasn't ready to say goodbye to Sia just yet. I'm looking forward to checking out the authors other books.
