Throwback Thursday July 19th

Throwback Thursday is a weekly meme hosted by The Housework Can Wait and Never to fond of Books.

It's the nature of book blogging to focus mainly on new releases, but there are thousands of great books out there that haven't seen the "New Releases" shelf in years. We hope to be able to bring attention to some older titles that may or not be at the top of the current bestseller list, but still deserve a spot in your To-Be-Read pile.

You don't have to be a book blogger to participate! You can put up a Throwback Thursday post on your non-bookish blog; or if you don't have a blog at all you can use the comments to tell us about a book your remember fondly.

Here's how it works:
1. Pick any book released more then 5 years ago. Adult, YA, Children's: doesn't matter. Any great book will do.
2. Write up a short summary of the book (include the title, author, and cover art) and an explanation of why you love it. Make sure to link back to The Housework Can Wait and Never Too Fond of Books in your post.
3. Link up your post at The Housework Can Wait or Never Too Fond of Books.
4. Visit as many blogs as you can, reminisce about books you loved and discover some "new" books for your TBR list!

Feel free to grab the Throwback Thursday button code from the sidebar to use in your posts.
Thanks for participating and we look forward to seeing which books you choose to remember!

The Bride
Julie Garwood
Publication June 5th 2002

Synopsis -
By the king's edict, Alec Kincaid, mightiest of the Scottish lairds, must take an English bride. And Jamie the youngest daughter of Baron Jamison, is his choice. From his first glimpse of the proud beautiful English lady, Alec felt a burning hunger stir within him. This was a woman worthy of his fearless warrior's spirit. And he aches to touch her, tame her, possess her....forever.

But with the wedding vows, Jamie pledges her own secret oath: She will never surrender her love to this Highland barbarian. He was everything her heart warned her against--an arrogant, brooding scoundrel whose rough good looks and seductive embrace fire her blood. But when strange accidents begin to threaten Jamie's life and an old rumor that Alec killed his first wife spreads anew, something far more dangerous then desire threatens to conquer her senses.

Review-
I've re-read this series many times over the years, every time I pass a set of the books off to friends they never seem to come back. I didn't want to give anything away so I didn't leave the synopsis of the wedding didn't want to spoil it. However I love this series, my favorite Julie Garwood series. My best friend and I read them the first time when they had just come out together. We used to joke one day we would marry highland lairds because of this series. I love the characters, Jamie has such a great personality, she's just so lovable as a heroine. The story is entertaining, keeps you drawn in and when your done your left with a smile. I honestly loved reading these books and plan to do so again very soon. They are my favorite historical romance books.
Since I've not read these books in ages and my review doesn't do it justice.  I figure'd I would throw in a few teasers as well to draw you in.

From the paperback
Pg 1 Opening few sentences
They say he killed his first wife.
Papa said maybe she needed killing. It was a most unfortunate remark for a father to make in front of his daughters, and Baron Jamison realized his blunder as soon as the words were out of his mouth.
Pg 53 a few more sentences
She wore black to her wedding. Her choice of attire was a purely defiant gesture meant to infuriate the Scotsman. Jamie knew her plan had failed, however, the minute she walked back into the great hall. Alec took one look at her and started laughing.

  1. I haven't either of these two, but I love medieval romance. I read Garwood's Castles years ago and remember really enjoying it. I'll have to check them out! Thanks for sharing.
