Blog Tour/ Review Seeds of War

Title - Seeds of War
Author - Rachel Fisher
Series - Eden's Root #2
Genre - Young Adult Dystopia
Publication - July 16th 2012
Format - Ebook Review

Synopsis

Seeds of War is the second book in the Eden's root trilogy.

The mission of Eden must be fulfilled and Eden’s best Seekers are needed. Forming a new group they dub the Seeders, Fi, Asher, and Sean are joined by a new addition as they set out to bring hope and support to the Topsiders in the form of radios and heirloom seeds. Their experiences Topside prepare them for the threat from marauding gangs they call Lobos, but it is a different, less obvious sort of threat that takes them by surprise. As radio broadcasts begin to reconnect Eden and the Topsiders, the Seeders stumble upon mysterious broadcasts from unknown stations. When two of their own new radio stations go silent within days of each other, Fi and her companions realize that something is terribly wrong. Eden finds itself pitted against a growing and unknown force as their very mission lights the flames of war.

Review

I received Seeds of War as part of the tour hosted by AToMR Tours in return for an honest review. Seeds of War is the second book in the Eden’s Root Series it continues Fi’s story. Fi’s family has made it safely to Eden, where they are all accepted into the colony. Fi’s relationship with Asher still exists and now Sean has moved on with his own love interest. Fi has also agreed to marry Asher when she turns 17 because they are both in love and have been for a long time. As the family settles into life in the colony Fi struggles with what to do now that she’s not leading the family. She spends her time working in a lab as well as going out as a seeker. It’s while she’s visiting Tom the radio guy that they get their first call from one of the original Diaspora colonies that Eden is modeled after.

The higher up’s have a chance to talk over the radio and the colonists learn that they never fished Diaspora III which is where Fi’s family was to be stationed before her father got sick. They also learn that Diaspora I had issues with the seals causing people to leave running into the forest including the president and her family. A few of Diaspora’s scientist were saved including the one who took her family off the list and who Louie stole the plans from.  The plan for Eden was to be able to help the earth’s remaining people rebuild, hence the seeders are created. Fi, with the help of her friends will take seed’s that haven’t been engineered to groups of people in the open. They will also provide them with radios and attempt to see the countryside along the way. It’s not that easy the group will face threat’s that will risk everything.  Will the Seeders be able to finish their mission?

Like the first one I’m in love with Seeds of War. It’s such an intriguing story that captivates the imagination. Just like the first one I had a hard time putting it down I even stayed up super late just to finish because I just had to know what was going to happen next. I love concept of Eden it’s unlike any Dystopia book I’ve read which creates a unique story. I think the idea of the seeders is great also; it’s a great way to rebuild the heirloom veggies. I found Seeds of War well written, the story flows along smoothly so anyone teen or adult will be able to keep up. I love being to watch Fi and her friends grow up they have come such a long way from the beginning of the first book they continue to progress. Overall it’s a great series I would suggest anyone who’s into the whole post-apocalyptic concepts. I look forward to the next installment in the series because I’m very much in love with the series.

Blog Tour/Review: Eden's Root

Title - Eden's Root

Author - Rachel Fisher

Series - Eden's Root #1
Genre - Young Adult Dystopia
Publication December 17th 2011
Format - ebook review copy

Synopsis

The year is 2033 and the world hovers on the edge of explosion as unexplained crop deaths lead to severe global food shortages. In the United States, the Sickness is taking lives slowly, creeping its way into every family. Fi Kelly has already faced the Sickness in her own family, toughening her beyond her years. But a shocking confession from her dying father will push her toughness to its absolute limits. Saddled with an impossible secret and the mission of saving her little sister, Fi sets out to transform herself into the warrior that she must become to survive the coming collapse. Along the way, she will discover that evil can be accidental and that love can be intentional.

Review

I received Eden’s Root in return for an honest review as part of the tour hosted by AToMR Tours. Fi Kelly’s world is spinning out of control at a rapid pace. People all over the world are getting sick with cancers dying at early ages. She lost her young brother when she was little and now her father has developed the cancer as well. It’s with his upcoming death he reveals the truth to Fi hoping that she will be able to protect her little sister even though she’s still a child herself.  Her father tells her that she needs to learn to fight, how to hunt, to survive on the land on food that hasn't been poisoned by the chemicals that are making everyone sick. He also tells her that she needs to head north for Eden where the government has set up a place that will survive on its own.

As a thirteen year old girl Fi does as her father asks learning to shoot a bow, then a gun, training to fight but she couldn't leave her family like her father told her. As it gets closer to the time when she will need to flee with her sister and mother she tells her best friend bringing Sean into the training. Together the pair learns to fight and survive. When the time comes both families flee into the forests as the government locks up the food stores sending people into a panic all over the world. As Fi and Sean lead their family through the forest heading for Eden they encounter new people who join the family becoming a stronger family unit. It’s up to Fi and Sean to raid the smaller towns for supply’s to keep their little family fed.

It’s a year after everything happened that Fi and Sean head off to New York for one final raid that will tide them off as their family heads for Eden after the winter. While in New York Sean is taken by a gang beaten but Fi show’s up to help him get away only be have another gang attack them. With the help of the first gang’s leader Asher the trio are able to escape New York with their supplies also adding another member to their family. Sean sense the connection between Fi and Asher he’s filled with anger and jealousy but he learns to accept it. As they set out for Eden along the way Fi and her little sister have to say goodbye to their mother who has been ill with the cancers.  Will their family make it to Eden? Does Eden really exist?

Wow, I’m so impressed with Eden’s Root. I’ve been addicted to the Dystopia genre for a while now and Eden’s root’s been on my TBR list forever so when the chance to read both of them came up I couldn't pass up the opportunity and I’m glad I didn't  Fi’s adventure from little girl to warrior who protects her growing family is inspiring dealing with heartache and a budding romance is magical. I love Fi as a character she’s tasked with a challenge that sounds daunting to me but she did everything in her power to protect them all. I found the story is beautifully written in such detail I felt that I was really with Fi cheering her on throughout the whole book. I love the relationships that Fi has with her family, they may not be blood but the way she connects with each one is special. I just really loved Fi as a character she’s pushed her way to the top as my favorite. I just really loved everything about the book; it’s stolen a special place in my heart. I can’t wait to see what happens next thankfully I have the copy on my kindle ready to go or I’d be lost.

A. Doomed by Tracy Deebs (Review) It's been ages since I stayed up really late reading. To acquire the power she needs to free him, she’ll become one of the Interred, those whose Magical abilities emerge as they come of age. When she does, she’ll discover that Declan isn’t the only one interested in the fact that she’s a Time Bender.

As the Interment arrives, Baxter knows this will be no Sweet Sixteen. A vengeful relative and ruthless Council are determined to control her. Declan’s powerful and charming descendant, Jack Ashdown, claims he can save her. She’ll soon have to decide who she can trust, and how to master her new abilities before Time runs out.

Review

I received a review copy of Interred in return for an honest review as part of the blog tour hosted by YA Bound. Baxter’s sixteenth birthday is just around the corner quickly approaching, when a stranger shows up at her home. She learns that her mother has inherited a family home, and that she has inherited a pendent that holds a teenage boy trapped in a time loop. Declan has been locked in the time loop for over 122 years and he’s hoping that Baxter will be able to break his curse. Baxter also learns that magic beings do exist and she’s one of them just like her mom. Against her best judgment Baxter’s mom takes the family to long so that she can be Interred.

When they arrive in London Baxter quickly learns that on your sixteenth birthday everyone is Interred where they test your powers and you come into your full powers. Baxter learns that she’s a time bender very rare a gift it’s also why she can see Declan and no one else can. She learns that Declan has agreed to help her pass her interred with the hopes that after she will be able to free him from the loop. On the night of her sixteenth birthday she’s taken with the others to be Interred but it’s nothing like she could have imagined. Everything goes crazy, she runs for her life with Jack a warrior healer who she has a connection with. With his help and Declan’s she will be tested unlike anything she can imagine pushing her to limits. Then when she thinks it’s over she learns that her whole life has been turned upside down to the point she won’t be able to go back. Will Baxter be able to save the day?

I love Interred. The concept is very unique and interesting it’s a new twist on witches very refreshing. I think Baxter is a great character she’s very real which makes her easy to connect with. Baxter has two potential love interests in Interred one who’s stuck in the time loop and one she’s connected with because he’s a healer. I had a hard time rooting for either one because I kept expecting them to turn on her. The story is well written it flows along smoothly, however when the Interred started things got a little confusing but that’s because so much was going on. I like that it’s a clean book which makes it appropriate for teens as well as adults to enjoy.  Interred is an action packed adventure filled with mystery a little romance and whole lot of magic. I found the story so captivating I had a hard time putting the book down I just had to know what was going to happen to Baxter next.  I can’t wait to see what’s going to happen in the next book.

Throwback Thursday!

Throwback Thursday January 24th 2013

Throwback Thursday is a weekly meme hosted by The Housework Can Wait and Never to fond of Books.

It's the nature of book blogging to focus mainly on new releases, but there are thousands of great books out there that haven't seen the "New Releases" shelf in years. We hope to be able to bring attention to some older titles that may or not be at the top of the current bestseller list, but still deserve a spot in your To-Be-Read pile.

You don't have to be a book blogger to participate! You can put up a Throwback Thursday post on your non-bookish blog; or if you don't have a blog at all you can use the comments to tell us about a book your remember fondly.

And NOW! We’re expanding! Throwback Thursday is no longer limited to just books! Throwback Thursday is dedicated to shining the spotlight on any book-related old favorites that need to be remembered. What’s your favorite classic television show or movie adaptation? What about your favorite song? Was your favorite toy a character from a book?
Here’s how it works:
  • Pick any media (or non-media item) released more than 5 years ago. Remember to keep it book-related!
  • Write up a short summary (include the title, author, and cover art, if applicable) and an explanation of why you love it. Make sure to link back to The Housework Can Wait and Never Too Fond of Books in your post.
  • Link up your post at The Housework Can Wait or Never Too Fond of Books.
  • Visit as many blogs as you can, reminisce about books you loved, and discover some “new” books for your TBR list – or some other classic!
My choice this week is one of my favorite movies.

Dirty Dancing

Patrick Swayze & Jennifer Grey
- Won Oscar for Best Music in 1988
- Won a Golden Globe Best Original Song 1988

Baby has grown up in privileged surroundings and all expect her to go on to college, join the Peace Corps and save the world before marrying a doctor, just like her father. Unexpectedly, Baby becomes infatuated with the camp's dance instructor, Johnny Castle, a man whose background is vastly different from her own. Baby lies to her father to get money to pay for an illegal abortion for Johnny's dance partner. She then fills in as Johnny's dance partner and it is as he is teaching her the dance routine that they fall in love. It all comes apart when Johnny's friend falls seriously ill after her abortion and Baby gets her father, who saves the girl's life. He then learns what Baby has been up to, who with and worse - that he funded the illegal abortion...

My thoughts

I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!! I have such fond memories of this movie. I think I was ten when my mom was watching it on TV late one night and I wan't sleepy. She told me I wasn't old enough so from that day I begged her to let me watch it I think it was a year later she did and I've been hooked ever since. I just love everything about this movie dancing, music and romance. I had the VHS copy that I wore out and had to get a second copy of as a teen. Then I got a DVD copy which was later kidnapped by my sister. I picked up another DVD copy which I had till my hubby got m the blue ray copy I have now. I even made him sit down and watch it with me last week. It's one of the two movies I own I could watch over and over. You'll have to wait till next week to see what the other is.

From The Review Pile

From the Review Pile January 24th 2013

From the Review Pile is a meme hosted by Stepping Out of the Page every Thursday.
The aim of this meme is to showcase books that you've received for review (or if you don't receive review books, any book that you own and really want to read/review) but haven't yet got around to reading, in order to give the book some extra publicity.

I know that a lot of you have a huge pile of books that you want to read/review, but it understandably takes a while to get around to reading them all - here you can give a book (or two!) some of the publicity that it deserves, even if you haven't read it yet!

I picked this one up as a freebie from amazon last summer but I've never gotten a chance to read it yet. I love the cover as well as the synopsis sounds interesting. One day soon.

Blood of Anteros
by Georgia Cates
Paranormal Vampires
(Goodreads)

Synopsis

"I was tantalized by the mystery of her. The leech inside me came out to find prey, but found none in this enigmatic girl. The close proximity of her essence didn’t entice the monster within, so what did that make her? I had more questions than answers, but one thing was unmistakable; although she released me from her embrace, her hold on me remained."

Cruel circumstances turned Curry Brennan into the wretched monster he hates and refuses to accept, but when an expected turn of events releases him from the bond of his obsessive maker, he returns to the home he knew 161 years earlier and finds the return of happiness and joy in something he didn’t know existed. Puzzled by his growing attraction to Chansey Leclaire, a human, he is unable to resist the captivating relationship that threatens to reveal his existence as a vampire. He eventually discovers the reason he was destined to find what he didn’t know he searched for and is faced with the cruel realization that the living and the immortal undead will always be separated by one thing. Eternity.

Reveal: SENSHI Trailer

KATANA

Kill Bill meets Buffy in this supernatural samurai taleRileigh Martin would love to believe that adrenaline gave her the uncanny courage and strength to fend off three muggers. But it doesn't explain her dreams of fifteenth century Japan, the incredible fighting skills she suddenly possesses, or the strange voice giving her battle tips and danger warnings. While worrying that she's going crazy (always a reputation ruiner), Rileigh gets a visit from Kim, a handsome martial arts instructor, who tells Rileigh she's harboring the spirit of a five-hundred-year-old samurai warrior.

Relentlessly attacked by ninjas, Rileigh has no choice but to master the katana--a deadly Japanese sword that's also the key to her past. As the spirit grows stronger and her feelings for Kim intensify, Rileigh is torn between continuing as the girl she's always been and embracing the warrior inside her.

"This action-packed novel has a unique and compelling plot...Fans of Carrie Asai's Samurai Girl series will be particularly interested, but even readers who dislike supernatural story lines will enjoy this tale of modern samurais."
~School Library Journal~

"An action packed page-turner tempered with slow-burning romance."

SENSHI

Is Rileigh’s only hope for salvation to team up with her sworn enemy?

Rileigh Martin just wants to do normal teenage things, like go on romantic dates with Kim, her boyfriend and past life soul mate. Although that seems impossible when she’s the reincarnation of Senshi, a fifteenth century samurai warrior. After a ninja ambush leaves her unable to control her ki powers, Rileigh vows to get them under control before her friends lose more than their eyebrows. But when Kim leaves her for his past life betrothed and the other samurai stop talking to her, Rileigh realizes she doesn’t have any friends left to worry about.

As the ninja attacks increase, Rileigh learns that the reincarnated kunoichi, a powerful female ninja, wants to kill her in order to reclaim her destructive powers. Alone and with increasingly unstable powers, Rileigh’s only offer of help comes from Whitley, her sworn past life enemy. Rileigh knows she doesn’t stand a chance against the kunoichi by herself, but Whitley’s sudden allegiance might be hiding a much deadlier agenda.
