Happy Release Day & Review: When Dealing With Dragons

Title -
When Dealing With Dragons
Author - Dana Swift
Series - Standalone
Genre -  Romantasy
Format - eArc
From - Over The River PR

Synopsis

Bonding with dragons gave humans magic to craft metal—now, two school rivals have to work together to protect a priceless secret, all while fighting their growing attraction to each other, from Dana Swift, author of Cast in Firelight.

Copper-crafter Farren Walsh is set on following in her father's footsteps to become a dragon veterinarian. The only thing more powerful than her love for these magnificent creatures is her hate for those who exploit them for their precious metal. That includes her classmate, an arrogant dragon racer named James Murphy, whose silver-crafting family represents the worst of human greed and dragon abuse—plus, he's the biggest competition for the college scholarship she desperately needs.

When James strongarms his way into interning at her family's dragon sanctuary for the summer, it puts everything at risk. Farren isn't just the plain copper-crafter she seems. She's hiding a secret that could not only change her life, but their society as a whole. And James, trying to find refuge from his controlling father, harbors his own secret, years-long crush on Farren. Hating James might be harder than she thought, but Farren can't risk getting too close: the fate of an endangered species is at stake.

When Dealing with Dragons is a delightful young adult dual-POV romantasy about cross-class romance, finding family, and creating a better world for creatures big and small.

Review

I received When Dealing With Dragons from Wednesday Books in return for an honest review.

Farren just wants to get the scholarship so that she can be just like her dad a veterinarian for dragons. She didn't plan to save her rival and end up with him spending his recovery at her home putting them potentially at risk. However, the more time she spends with James the more she learns she may have judged him but when he learns her secret will he be able to keep it.

I loved Farren she's a sweetheart who just wants to save the dragons and I really felt like I could connect with her. James is the perfect guy to show up at her door, he's had a crush forever and now he has the chance to win her over. They have this sweet romance that blooms as the story progresses. This is a YA romance so it's a fantasy story with just the right balance of romance.

This is my first book by the author and I'm obsessed I ended up devouring it in just a single reading session in one afternoon. The author has done a beautiful job creating a captivating story that sparked my imagination and stole my heart. I found the entire story to be refreshing take on the dragon rider concept and I loved it. I loved every moment of it and can't wait to read her other books. Highly recommend if you enjoy YA dragon fantasy.

Opening Line
“What next?”

Teaser

An hour later I finish serving someone and Edward is nowhere to be seen. Where is he? I walk around the store and check all the alcoves, nope…. He’s not here.

“Where did he go?” I mouth to Jonty.

He shrugs. “He left.”

“Oh.” I frown, odd of him to leave without saying something. I walk to the front door and walk out; I look left and then right and then my eyes land on something inside the cafĂ© on the opposite side of the street.

Edward is sitting at a table drinking coffee like a king.

Seriously?

“I’m going out for a little bit,” I tell Jonty and Helene.

“Okay.”

I cross the street and make my way in and sit at the table opposite Edward. He raises an eyebrow in question.

“What are you doing?” I ask.

“Taking a break.”

“You didn’t do any work yet.”

“I sold an armoire.” He dusts his suit jacket off.

“What exactly did you do?”

“I’ve been very busy in my office.”

“Doing what?”

Having a panic attack.

“Paperwork,” I lie.

He nods and casually sips his coffee. “How’d that go?”

“What are you doing, Edward?” I sigh. “We both know you don’t want to be my intern.”

Amusement flashes across his face as he blows on his coffee. “What gave it away?”

“Why did you bid at the auction?”

“To support you.”

My eyes hold his.

“And I was going to donate the internship until your pissy little boyfriend carried on.” He frowns. “I still can’t believe you’re with him.”

Synopsis

From the author of Partners in Crime, comes a sparkling new adventure rom-com where a con woman and a lawman team up on an epic cross-country road trip to save their families…and each other.

Sejal Chaudhary inherited her mama’s calculating brain, her daddy’s quick fingers, and the boatload of trauma that comes with being the eldest daughter of criminals. Although Sejal has never claimed to be a good girl, she’s spent the last couple years laying low and going (mostly) straight. That is, until a con gone wrong sends her into the arms of a handsome stranger who’s set on dragging her back into her messy family drama.

Krish Anand never mastered the fine art of being a bad boy…he would take a book over bullets any day. But when his FBI agent brother goes missing, he has no choice but to suit up for the adventure of a lifetime. Certain that someone in Sejal’s little crime family is behind the disappearance, a desperate Krish manages to convince the beautiful thief that his brother’s badge is actually his.

The deal is simple: help him find his brother, and Krish and the law will leave Sejal be. With an up-to-no-good ex also hot on her trail, Sejal reluctantly agrees. As they wind their way across the country on planes, buses, and automobiles, sparks ignite, and what began as a fragile temporary truce starts to look more and more like a partnership.

Falling for the enemy? So cliche, but so good…if only they can survive long enough to chance a happily ever after.

My Review

I received Enemies to Lovers in return for an honest review from Avon via NetGalley.

Sejal is in hiding when she just happens to runs into Krish when she needs some help but has no idea he's also after her. When her rescuer needs something from her she's swept back into the family drama. Together they form an unlikely partnership that will benefit them both for their end goal. The more time they spend together the closer they get and together they may just find what they are looking for.

I received the audio book for this one and listened to it in just one afternoon. I tend to speed up my audio books or I have a harder time focusing and the voices didn't loose the appeal sped up. I devoured the story and was hooked right from the start with Sejal and Krish's whirlwind adventure. This is a sweet rom-com that had me giggling with just the right amount of spice to story.

This is my first book by the author and I'm hooked on her storytelling. She's created this beautiful complex story that I just fell in love with. I really felt that I was able to connect with the characters and cheered them on through the whole story. This is a standalone so it's not required to read the prior book as they interconnected. I highly recommend reading this one it was cute and a perfect romcom for what I had been craving. This is my first book by the author but I plan to read her back list.

Synopsis
A spicy, adult romantasy retelling of "Bluebeard" and "Little Red Riding Hood," two of Charles Perrault's most famous stories.

Sybil Fallon has a habit of summoning demons unintentionally and at the most inconvenient times. When she, her mother, and her sister are invited to an upcoming dinner at the estate of the mysterious Theron Beresford, Sybil is desperate to ensure that her ability won't manifest and ruin the evening. But when she seeks help from her reclusive former mentor, Grandmother Riquet, she discovers that the old woman has changed in dangerous and disturbing ways... and so has the forest in which she lives.

As Sybil struggles to control an ability she doesn't understand, she becomes strongly attracted to Beresford, the brawny, handsome estate owner. His distinctive blue beard isn't his only unusual trait. In addition to socially acceptable dinner parties, he also likes to host secret gatherings in the refurbished barn on his property. Sybil's first invitation to one of his naughty midnight parties opens her mind to a world of new pleasures. But with local disappearances inciting the suspicion of the neighbors, and Beresford's secretive nature raising questions in her own mind, Sybil must navigate an increasingly treacherous path through the forest of her circumstances in pursuit of the future she wants.

Content guidance can be found in the front matter of the book or on the author's website.

My Review

I received Blue Beard, Red Hood in return for an honest review from the author.

Sybil is unique she unintentionally summons these demon creatures and fears that no one will want her. The creatures she summons live in the woods next to her house. When a handsome stranger shows up in town and has eyes for her she falls hard for him. Beresford has his own set up secrets but will they survive when the secrets are revealed.

I loved Sybil she's such a great character even when she's accidentally summoning these creatures. I'm not super familiar with the blue beard story but I loved the Red Riding Hood elements. Beresford is an interesting character and I found his whole story fascinating. I really liked the characters I felt that I was able to connect with them and Beresford is just swoonworthy.

I devoured this one in just a few short hours I was hooked by the opening line and drawn in till the very last page. This is a beautiful story with just the right balance of story to spice. I've read so many of the authors retelling as she's one of my favorite auto buy authors but this one might be my favorite. With captivating characters, a steamy story, and just enough secrets to keep me guessing till the very end. I loved every moment of the story and can't wait to see what comes next. Highly recommend if you like spicy retellings.

“It starts out feeling pretty light and fun, but I promise you, you have no idea where this story is going.” - Taylor Jenkins Reid, recommended for her Must-Read Book of 2025 in TIME Magazine

An insanely competitive housing market. A desperate buyer on the edge. In Marisa Kashino’s darkly humorous debut novel, Best Offer Wins, the white picket fence becomes the ultimate symbol of success—and obsession. How far would you go for the house of your dreams?

Eighteen months and 11 lost bidding wars into house-hunting in the overheated Washington, DC suburbs, 37-year-old publicist Margo Miyake gets a tip about the perfect house, in the perfect neighborhood, slated to come up for sale in one month. Desperate to escape the cramped apartment she shares with her husband Ian — and in turn, get their marriage, plan to have a baby, and whole life back on track — Margo becomes obsessed with buying the house before it’s publicly listed and the masses descend (with unbeatable, all-cash offers in hand).

A little stalking? Harmless. A bit of trespassing? Necessary. As Margo infiltrates the homeowners’ lives, her tactics grow increasingly unhinged—but just when she thinks she’s won them over, she hits a snag in her plan. Undeterred, Margo will prove again and again that there’s no boundary she won’t cross to seize the dream life she’s been chasing. The most unsettling part? You’ll root for her, even as you gasp in disbelief.

Dark, biting, and laugh-out-loud funny, Best Offer Wins is a propulsive debut and a razor-sharp exploration of class, ambition, and the modern housing crisis.

My Review

I received Best Offer Wins in return for an honest review from the Publisher.

Margo and her husband Ian have been hunting for the perfect house but the housing market is out of control. So they quickly find they lose out on every house. When an inside tip points her at a house which is perfect she is willing to do anything to get this house. Will they get their dream house of will it be yanked out of there hands like all the others.

I love Margo she's a great character and I admit as unhinged as she becomes I feel like it's totally justified and I totally don't blame her she did what she has to do. I hope that one day when the time comes I don't turn into a Margo when it comes to buying a house.

I devoured this one in just one afternoon and loved every moment of it. Best Offer Wins is loaded with adventure some laughs and just enough twists to keep you guessing till the very end. This is my first book by the author but I'm obsessed with her storytelling. I can't wait to see what she comes up with next. This is one of my favorite books of 2025 it's a fun thriller and perfect for fans of thriller who aren't looking for anything to heavy.

The summer before Cruz left college changed his life but also kept him away from home for two years. Now he's back Ellery has grown up and he can't seem to get her out of his mind. Neither one can deny the attraction that hasn't gone away in the two years they have been apart. When fate keeps pushing them together it get's harder to avoid the feelings that are still there. Ellery has a lot on her mind with the fact her fathers death is in the news.

I loved the characters both Cruz and Ellery are great you can't help cheering them on as the story progresses. I loved their story it was easy to be drawn into it and hooked right from the start.
