Picking out what to read has always been a struggle for me. I've got lots of review books and even more non-review books.

My Choice's for what's next:

New Sight by Jo Schneider

(Goodreads)

Synopsis

The doctors have no answers, and Lys is ready to give up when the mysterious Jeremiah Mason appears, telling Lys that she’s not insane—she’s addicted to a rare and deadly drug that she has no recollection of using. Mr. Mason offers to take her to his facility where he can treat her. Desperate yet suspicious, Lys agrees to go with Mr. Mason to his facility where she meets with a fellow addict, the tall and handsome Kamau. Together they discover that Mr. Mason may not have told them the truth about their condition—they’re thrown headfirst into a world of daunting powers that are not only unbelievable, they are dangerous.

or

Acid by Emma Pass
(Goodreads)

Synopsis

The year is 2113. In Jenna Strong's world, ACID—the most brutal controlling police force in history—rule supreme. No throwaway comment or whispered dissent goes unnoticed—or unpunished. And it was ACID agents who locked Jenna away for life, for a horrendous crime she struggles to remember. But Jenna's violent prison time has taught her how to survive by any means necessary.

When a mysterious rebel group breaks her out, she must use her strength, speed, and skill to stay one step ahead of ACID, and try to uncover the truth about what really happened on that terrible night two years ago. They have taken her life, her freedom, and her true memories away from her. How can she reclaim anything when she doesn't know who to trust?

Strong, gritty writing, irresistible psychological suspense, and action consume the novel as Jenna struggles to survive against the all-controlling ACID. Seriously sinister stuff.

My Dusty Bookshelf

My Dusty Bookshelf
I've got an addiction for adding books to my bookshelf but never getting around to them. I'm sure I'm not the only one either. It's just so easy with all the new books to forget about the older ones. I'd like to start reading some of the books I've had for years and just haven't read. I thought this would be a good way to share and rekindle some interest in my dusty books. Plus I love giving books a little extra spotlight when I can.

I've had this one on my TBR list forever according to goodreads January 2012. I'm even looking at my copy on my kindle as I write this. I like the blues on the cover.

Death's Daughter
by Amber Benson
(Goodreads

DADDY'S LITTLE GIRL

For the last few years I'd been in a state of bliss--living under a self-imposed Forgetting Charm, because I so did not want to go into the family business. What I wanted was a glamorous career in New York City and the opportunity for a normal life--buying designer shoes on sale, dating guys from craigslist, Web surfing for organic dim sum for my boss. And then my father's Executive Assistant, a faun named Jarvis, showed up to tell me that my dad has been kidnapped.

Good-bye Forgetting Charm. Hell, (unwanted) responsibility. Not only am I expected to step into the CEO slot on the company Board, but I have to "prove my worth" by competing against the Devil's protégé--who so hot in more ways than one. The contest involves finding three (why is it always three?) objects of power. In Hell.

One of them is this adorable puppy--who happens to be a hellhound. The others are turning out to be not much fun. All this so I can take (unwanted) charge of Death, Inc.

My name is Calliope Reaper-Jones, and I'm...Death's Daughter.

What's on your dusty bookshelf? Do you have books that have been there for years? I do. I can't wait to see what you have to share this week. Be sure to leave a comment with a link so I can check yours out. Happy Reading!!!

Waiting on Wednesday

Waiting on Wednesday April 23rd 2014
Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking The Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases we're eagerly anticipating. In my case not so patiently waiting for the new releases, which I lack.

I've been on high fantasy burn out but this one sounds amazing. I can't wait to get my hands on a copy. Plus I love the cover.

Snow Like Ashes

Synopsis

A heartbroken girl. A fierce warrior. A hero in the making.

Sixteen years ago the Kingdom of Winter was conquered and its citizens enslaved, leaving them without magic or a monarch. Now, the Winterians’ only hope for freedom is the eight survivors who managed to escape, and who have been waiting for the opportunity to steal back Winter’s magic and rebuild the kingdom ever since.

Orphaned as an infant during Winter’s defeat, Meira has lived her whole life as a refugee, raised by the Winterians’ general, Sir. Training to be a warrior—and desperately in love with her best friend, and future king, Mather — she would do anything to help her kingdom rise to power again.

So when scouts discover the location of the ancient locket that can restore Winter’s magic, Meira decides to go after it herself. Finally, she’s scaling towers, fighting enemy soldiers, and serving her kingdom just as she’s always dreamed she would. But the mission doesn’t go as planned, and Meira soon finds herself thrust into a world of evil magic and dangerous politics – and ultimately comes to realize that her destiny is not, never has been, her own.

Review: Saltwater Kisses

Title - Saltwater Kisses
Author - Krista Lakes
Series - The Kisses Series #1
Genre - Romance
Format - Kindle Ebook
Published - June 24th 2013
Publisher - Zirconia Publishing

Synopsis

When small-town girl Emma LaRue won a vacation to an exclusive tropical island, a last minute cancellation meant she would be going by herself. Shy and studious, she never had time to fall in love, and often wondered if she was just meant to be alone. However, that all changed when a handsome stranger literally walked into her life while on the beach and sparks began to fly.

New York's most eligible billionaire bachelor Jack Saunders thought this vacation would be the perfect escape, one last hurrah, before taking full control of his father's company. When an innocent Emma didn't recognize him, he figured that he might get a chance to have a vacation from being rich. He didn't tell her about the cars, the yacht, or the penthouse. All he did was let her fall in love with him.

Soon, Jack found that he was the one falling in love with Emma. When they enjoy a fantasy marriage ceremony on the beach, they thought it was a bit of harmless fun before returning to their normal lives. A bittersweet goodbye was supposed to be the end of their perfect vacation romance, but when photos of the ceremony were leaked to the press, everything changed.

Feeling lied to and thrust into a world of wealth and privilege, Emma must choose between following her dreams or following her heart. Will she be content at being nothing more than the billionaire's wife, or will she return to her normal life with only memories of saltwater kisses?

Review

Emma LaRue won a radio station contest receiving an exclusive tropical island vacation for two. When her sister has to cancel at the last minute Emma has to go alone. Upon arriving at the hotel she is enchanted by the beauty and the ocean which she has never seen before. While sitting on the beach enjoying the sun she sees a woman struggling with a man in the water. Without thinking she rushes in to help starting CPR when the get to land and saving his life. She also encounters Jake who was walking along the beach when he happened upon the accident.

The two start talking finding that while she’s a small town girl he’s the son of a wealthy business owner but he doesn’t tell her which one. He’s taking one final vacation before taking over the company. Together they find companionship spending the whole week together as much as they can each knowing it will end when they return to their real lives.

On a whim they get married knowing it’s not legal and when they return to their normal lives it will just be a memory. Jake isn’t just some wealthy son of a business man he’s New York’s most eligible bachelor and the press gets wind of their wedding. Soon Emma is forced into Jack’s world to play his wife until the press dies down putting her dreams on hold. Will it all work out of backfire in their faces?

I like Emma she’s a total sweetheart, however being a small town girl I didn’t expect her to jump right into the sack with Jack. Their romance is sweet taking two people from different worlds and finding love.  While Jack is doing the right thing taking over his father’s company he also is a good guy even if he is a workaholic. They needed each other on vacation finding what their lives had been missing and I love the two of them together.

I’ve had Saltwater Kisses on my kindle forever and the other day I grabbed the fourth one I think as a kindle freebie. So I decided it was time to check them out and I’m glad I did. I could have stayed up all night reading if not for needing to get up early. It’s a fast paced story that kept me on the edge of the seat wanting to know what was going to happen between Emma and Jack next. I’m a fan of well written chick lit that has a story that isn’t overloaded with steamy scenes and this one is my kind of book. The characters are easy to connect with you can’t help loving Emma she’s so sweet. I just finished and I can’t stop smiling the book made my whole day. While it does have a few steamy scenes I can see mature teens as well as adults enjoying this book. I know it’s the kind of book I would have read as a teen. Plus I love the cover makes me want to take a vacation to the beach.  I’m looking forward to reading the rest of the series.

Review: Pride's Run

Title - Pride's Run
Author - Cat Kalen
Series - A Wolf's Pride #1
Genre - YA Paranormal Romance
Published - November 2nd 2011
Publisher - Bloomsbury USA Children's Books

Synopsis

Seventeen year old Pride is a tracker—a werewolf with a hunger for blood. Taught to trick and to lure, she is the perfect killing machine.

Kept leashed in the cellar by a master who is as ruthless as he is powerful, Pride dreams of freedom, of living a normal life, but escape from the compound is near impossible and disobedience comes with a price.

When she learns her master intends to breed her she knows she has to run.

Pride soon learns if she is to survive in the wild, she must trust in the boy who promises her freedom, the same boy she was sent to hunt.

With life and death hanging in the balance the two find themselves on the run from the Paranormal Task Force—officers who shoot first and ask questions later—as well as her master’s handlers.

Can Pride flee the man who has held her captive since birth and find sanctuary in the arms of a boy who has captured her heart? Or will her master find her first?

Review
I received Prides Run in return for an honest review from the publisher via NetGalley. Pride has spent her whole life in the captivity of her master living in cages. She is a werewolf who’s been trained to be a tracker who works for her master as a killer. Her parents are dead killed by the master, and now he has plans to mate her to Stone the alpha who hates her in hopes of breaking her. When at the last minute Pride is sent on a mission she knows this may be her only chance to get away before it’s too late. Her target is a young boy her age, but after looking at him he’s also a werewolf and when the chance arises she takes it to run away.

Pride isn't just running from her handlers who will drag her back to her master but also the PTR (Paranormal Task Force) who will put a bullet in her without a second thought. Trusting people doesn’t come easy for Pride but if she’s going to survive she’ll have to trust Logan the stranger at that was her mark. The pair head off into the forest fleeing the PTR as well as her handlers. Pride has never been free before so this is all new, but with the help of Logan he teaches her to survive. Will the PRT or the handlers find her before it’s too late?

I instantly connected with Pride she’s had such a rough life she captured my heart. I rooted her own through the book she’s tough not your wimpy character but she’s also unsure about the real world. I wasn’t sure how I felt about Stone at first but by the end he proved he’s not a bad guy. What can I say about Logan other than he’s awesome; he’s patient with Pride and sees her for the person she is not what she looks like. He’s an honest good guy who I think is perfect to pull her out of her shell and teach her to live among the humans.

I’ve had my eye on Pride’s Run for a long time and when I saw it on NetGalley I had to request it. However it’s sat on my kindle for ages because I just was overwhelmed with books for review. Yesterday morning I selected it, captivated right from the start with Prides story, she’s not your typical werewolf. The whole story is packed full of action, emotions, romance, and self-discovery. I think the author has taken the werewolf concept putting her own unique spin on the idea creating a unique refreshing story. My only complaint is I’m confused what they look like when the shade from human to werewolf some of the descriptions almost make me feel like it’s not a wolf just a tough skinned human body. Other than that I loved the story, the characters are engaging and it kept my drawn in from start to finish. The story does have a potential love triangle which I try to avoid but due to the cliff hanger I know I need to read the next book to see what happens. It was hard to put down I would have stayed up all night if I wasn’t so tried. There is a sex scene but it’s mild so teens as well as adults should enjoy the story.
