Foodie Friday #1

Foodie Friday #1

I've been wanting to do this for a while but have been putting it off. Aside from books I love cooking it's a great outlet for me. Instagram has been a fun outlet to share my book pictures but I've been adding more and more food pictures. I thought I could use my blog to share a new recipe each week which will also cause me to try new things. So we will give it a go and see how it goes. I hope it's as interesting to me as it is to you. I follow a lot of food bloggers so I have whole list of fun ones I want to try.

Faux pecan pie
This week I've made a Faux pecan pie from Christy Jordan's Southern Plate

I love pecan pie it's one of my all time favorite desserts but with the price of pecans it's not as affordable as it used to be. So when I saw my beloved pecan pie with pretzels I knew I had to give it a go.

Mine looks just like hers. Just a little darker but I think that's because I used the brown sugar.

Steps
Recipe (Here).

I did make one change to the recipe but it's a preference change of using brown sugar instead of white.

I used a premade pie shell from the store frozen right out of the freezer.

So it took all of just a few minutes to mix up the pie and get it in the over.

A few hours in the fridge and I sliced into it.

The first never comes out clean so i'm not sharing that one but my 2nd one looked much better.

Overall thoughts
I think it's fantastic the salty aspects from the pretzels work well with the sweet filling. I may not make another pecan pie because the pretzel is just so good. I'll be adding this to my recipe list and can't wait to make it for next thanks giving. Or just because.
The best part is it's nut free so all those who have nut allergies or dislike pecan's will enjoy it.

I am always looking for new recipes to try so if you have a suggestion I'd love to check it out.

  1. Hmmm... I never thought of using pretzels instead of pecans. I LOVE pecan pie and you're right, they are expensive. I am going to have to give this a try.

    1. I honestly was shocked at how well it works out flavor wise. The salty pretzels are a great substitute for the expensive Pecans. I can't wait to see what you think. Let me know how it turns out =D
