Series - Kate Daniels #1
Genre - Urban fantasy
Published - April 1st 2007

Synopsis
Atlanta would be a nice place to live, if it weren’t for magic…

One moment magic dominates, and cars stall and guns fail. The next, technology takes over and the defensive spells no longer protect your house from monsters. Here skyscrapers topple under onslaught of magic; werebears and werehyenas prowl through the ruined streets; and the Masters of the Dead, necromancers driven by their thirst of knowledge and wealth, pilot blood-crazed vampires with their minds.

In this world lives Kate Daniels. Kate likes her sword a little too much and has a hard time controlling her mouth. The magic in her blood makes her a target, and she spent most of her life hiding in plain sight.

But when Kate’s guardian is murdered, she must choose to do nothing and remain safe or to pursue his preternatural killer. Hiding is easy, but the right choice is rarely easy…
Review

Kate lives in a world where one minute she’s using technology the next all that works is magic. Kate is a mercenary who uses her sword to take care of magical problems for money. When Greg her guardian mentor and longtime friend of her father is murdered Kate takes on the case. Greg is the only family that she’s had, he’s left her all his tools to Kate which should help her in the future. After a quick visit to the Knight protector she has new sticker on her ID but it’s going to get her the info on the case she wouldn’t get any other way but he has plans for her.

As Kate starts to work the case it’s clear that something powerful took out Greg after all he was the Knight-diviner and very powerful. In her search to find his killer it will lead Kate into the heart of the vampires and off to hunt down the leader of the shifters. Revealing that both may be innocent of Greg’s death because the dna left behind isn’t just vampire or shifter but both. Will Kate find the killer before he finds what he’s looking for which may be her?

I wasn’t sure about Kate at first but as the book progressed she quickly snuck into a place in my heart. She reminds me a lot of Mercy Thompson which is one of my favorite urban fantasy characters so I was hooked. I’m super curious to see how things are going to play out with our shifter leader Curran but I have high hopes for something in the future after all she’s not just your typical human girl.

I’m not sure why I waited so long to read Magic Bites it’s exactly what I needed a captivating Urban fantasy to pull me out of my funk. I really like the world that Kate lives in one that changes so dramatically forcing everyone to chance from driving cars to riding horse. That concept for Kate is interesting she’s my first Mercenary character living in two worlds one of magic and one of technology. I really loved Kate she was easy to connect with and I can’t wait to read the next book. My favorite genre are urban fantasy novels where humans live among the supernatural. This isn’t my first book by the author so I knew what kind of writing style I would get which just enhanced the already intriguing story. I love the way the authors tell the story it’s fast paced loaded with action a hint at romance and a murder to solve. One of my good friends recommended Kate Daniels to me so I had some high expectations to meet and she doesn’t disappoint. I already have the next one on my kindle ready to go. I'm hooked loved everything about the book defiantly a new must read series for urban fantasy fans.
