Book Blogger Hop & Readers Recommends

Book Blogger Hop

This weeks Question:
What is more important to you when you are deciding to read a book?

Answer:
First it has to be fiction. I pick based on synopsis and cover. I read all forms of fiction. I'm a sucker for a beautiful cover. Those books with the less than beautiful covers are chosen based on synopsis. I try to be fair when it comes to choosing each book. I won't lie a cover get's me every time. A few of my pretties I want to read.

Readers Recommends

This week we are recommending Ghost stories

Well this week is kind of tough. I don't read a lot of ghost stories so it's really hard to recommend some. This is my first week participating in this weekly So I'm going to share a few I've read and one I plan to read in next week.

The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater - Goodreads
I read this one the first of the year. I loved every moment of it. One of my new favorite series. the ghost element is strong in this one. This was also my first book by the author, and I loved her writing style.

First Grave on the Right by Darynda Jones - Goodreads
I wish I could say I'm current on this series but I'm not. I do hope to change that though in the future. I love the first one Charley is a great character and a reaper which is still a newer concept to me.

Born at Midnight by C.C. Hunter - Goodreads
I haven't finished this series only because I'm on the last and don't want to see it end seems to be a trend with me. While the ghost elements aren't very predominate in this one I do enjoy them. Plus the cover is fantastic.

Maplecroft by cherie Priest - Goodreads
This one was picked for my bookclub that I will be starting next week. I've had it on my TBR list for a while and I'm super excited to read it.

As I'm sure you can see my Ghost stories aren't super scary like typical ghost stories but maybe Maplecroft will be a little scary.

How about you? How do you pick your books? Any good ghost stories?

  1. I love a good cover as well! It may not make me read the book but I'll definitely pick it up and give it a 2nd look. I have The Raven Boys on my TBR. It sounds like such a fantastic book!

  2. I am a "cover girl" too. :)

Genre is the first thing I look at before I choose a book then the cover.

    Nice answer.

    ENJOY your reading weekend.

  3. Covers are SO IMPORTANT to me as well; I definitely judge a book by it's cover, which sometimes goes well, and other times you miss out on some good stuff that just happened to get a lame cover.

I've been seeing the Raven Boys around ( I really enjoyed Stiefvater's Wolves of Mercy Falls, so I'm sure I would like it!) and I just recently dove into the world of Urban Fantasy, so First Grave on the Right is high my to -read list!

Also, Maplecroft looks so creepy, and yet I can't look away. I'm excited to see what you think of it!!

  5. I am pretty much a cover judge I will admit so when looking for a book I go for that first and then read the blurb to see if I might like it. :) All those books you recommended I want to read..I have Raven Boys sitting on my shelf. :)

  6. The cover is the first thing to catch my eye but the blurb has to sound interesting. All the books you suggested are on my TBR!

    Have a great week!
