Synopsis
In Cry WolfNew York Times bestselling author Patricia Briggs started a new urban fantasy series set in the world of Mercy Thompson — but with rules of its own. Now, read "Alpha and Omega," the novella that inspired the new series, and see how it all began...

Anna Latham never knew werewolves existed, until the night she survived a violent attack... and became one herself. After three years at the bottom of the Chicago pack, she's learned to keep her head down and never, ever trust dominant males. But when she discovers wrongdoing in her pack, she has to go above her Alpha's head to ask for help.

Charles Cornick is the son — and enforcer — of the leader of the North American werewolves. Now his father has sent him to Chicago to clean up a problem there. Charles never expected to find Anna, a rare Omega wolf — and he certainly never expected to recognize her as his mate...

This novella was originally published in the anthology, On the Prowl.

Review
Anna was attacked resulting in her being turned into a werewolf but instead of being welcomed into the pack she’s brutalized and abused. When she sees an article in the local newspaper about a brutal attack and missing teen she knows it’s the wolf she saw locked up in alpha’s cages. Anna doesn’t like to draw attention to herself but she makes the call to the Marrok bring what’s happening to his attention only to be informed he has an investigator arriving tonight for her to meet.

Anna does her best to avoid drawing attention to herself but now she’s put herself right in the middle and maybe this time she won’t survive when the investigator meets with her alpha. Anna arrives at the airport to me the investigator but what she finds is more than she expected it’s the Marrok’s son Charles and after a short time he knows that he won’t be leaving Chicago without her. Will he be able to clean up town and keep Anna safe?

I love Anna she’s one of my favorite urban fantasy characters that I can’t get enough of. I like that she has a broken past and now Charles has road in light a knight in shining armor with the intention of protecting Anna even if she wants to go it alone. Together they found what the other was looking for making a powerful couple plus they are werewolves what’s not to love.

It’s been years since I read the Alpha & Omega series and decided with the newest one due out in the near future it’s a perfect time to re-read them. I love the urban fantasy world that the author has created plus it intertwines with Mercy Thompson. The characters are easy to connect with you can’t help falling in love with Charles he’s just the good guy and Anna is girl next door sweet. The story while a brief intro into how Anna and Charles is fast paced and loaded with action as well as a sweet romance. I think the concept for the werewolves is unique they way they have the inner wolf is really interesting.  The author has created a beautifully written captivating story. Overall it’s a great first installment and I look forward to spending more time with two of my favorite characters.
