Synopsis

Half-bloods with Thierry’s skill set are given two options. They can join the conclave’s marshal program, or they can pack their bags. Turn down the job offer, and you’ve just shredded your residency pass for the mortal realm and booked yourself a one-way ticket to Faerie.

Texas is the only home Thierry has ever known, and she’s not going anywhere. Even if it means following in her notorious father’s footsteps as a peacekeeper. But pinning on the badge opens her eyes to the fact sometimes fae need protection too, and that sometimes humans are the real monsters.

Opening
Burnt ozone tingled in my nose. I inhaled deeply, but all I scented was the coming storm. Thunder boomed overhead, rumbling through the ground under my feet. I was still hunched behind a twisted metal sculpture of a giant rooster when the first lukewarm raindrops splattered on my cheeks.

Review
I received Dog with a Bone in return for an honest review from the author. Thierry’s only half human at her thirteenth birthday party her other half came out killing several of her friends and revealing that she’s faerie. Her father is the black dog bound to both the Seelie and Unseelie a true hunter. She doesn’t have a lot of options as a half-bred but decides to become a peacekeeper. Her trainer is Shaw an incubus who can handle her abilities unlike the other instructors. When the time comes to test it’s the class against Shaw and Thierry is the only one to avoid getting caught.

Right away she’s assigned to work with Shaw for her next six weeks of on the job training. Her first time out she ends up killing a chimera and collection a bounty that will allow her to move into her own place with her friends. The next case won’t be so easy bodies are turning up both human and faeries and they could end up eaten by a giant worm? Will Thierry and Shaw survive her second case on the job or will this one be too much? What about the chemistry between them? What about her being one of the Black Dog’s heirs?

I liked Thierry right from the start her childhood wasn’t too bad till she turned thirteen and had a one of a kind birthday party ever since things have been strained between her and the mom. Her father is non-existent in her life but she’s learned to deal with it. I like my characters to have a little bit of a tragic back story and Thierry has just that. I love the way the faeries live hidden from the humans but have their own little world within the human one. I wasn’t sure how I felt about Shaw being a incubus I felt like maybe he’s manipulating her just a little but as the book progresses he grew on me.

I actually added this one to my wish list than a few weeks later the author was kind enough to offer me a review copy which I jumped at. Dog with a Bone is my kind of book I love urban fantasy with kick ass heroines and it’s not lacking one bit in that department. I was able to connect with Thierry right away which make me like her even more as the book progressed. I kind of wish I lived in a building that had a bean-tighe. The author did a great job creating a unique new world filled with new characters some new and some we all know.  I enjoyed Dog with a Bone the story was a quick action packed fast read. The writing is well done the whole story flows along smooth it was hard to put down. While it is a little steamy it’s not bad teens as well as adults will enjoy Thierry.  I’m looking forward to reading the next book in the series it looks good and I can’t wait to see what happens with Thierry next.
