5th Annual End of Year Book Survey - 2014 Edition!

5th Annual End of Year Book Survey - 2014 Edition!

Created by Jamie @ Perpetual Page Turner

I took part in this one last year and I really enjoyed checking everyone else out. I think this is a great way to share what all has happened.

Granted it will take me a day or two to get this all put together. I'm starting on the 18th but no promises that it will get posted tonight.

Number Of Books You Read:125 on the 19th but I'm almost done with the 126th and hope to get 150 before the end of the month. Even if I have to sneak in a few novellas to reach my goal.

Number of Re-Reads: 0 - To many books to read this year no time for re-reads. Which is sad I have several I would like too.

Genre You Read The Most From: Urban Fanatsy or Young Adult - I have a soft spot for young adult and I'm a huge addict for all things Urban Fantasy

 best-YA-books-2014
I read so many that I enjoyed this year. So I'll narrow it down to the top few.
Dire by Alyssa Rose Ivy
The School For Good And Evil by Soman Chainani
These are my top two favorites in the YA genre

1. Best Book You Read In 2014?
The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern

2. Book You Were Excited About & Thought You Were Going To Love More But Didn’t?
Outlander by Diana Gabaldon and I feel bad because my bookclub was so excited for this one but it was so slow I ended up giving up. Yup I'm one of those it was 900 pages and I just couldn't do it.

 3. Most surprising (in a good way or bad way) book you read in 2014?
Dorothy Must Die by Danielle Paige - I wasn't sure what to expect with this one. I was surprised how well the author executed the story. It's one of my favorites of the year.

 4. Book You “Pushed” The Most People To Read (And They Did) In 2014?
Alice in Zombieland by Gena Showalter - I suggested this one to my book club this year and several of the girls read and enjoyed the series. I actually loved the story and I know several of my fellow club members are going or currently reading the next books in the series.

 5. Best series you started in 2014? Best Sequel of 2014? Best Series Ender of 2014?
The One by Kiera Cass - This one was one of my most anticipated reads of 2014 and I couldn't wait to get my hands on it. I was nervous when I finished The Elite because it's a love triangle but I think the author did it tastefully and it was a perfect ending. She's even creating a new book The Heir which stars several years in the future America's daughter is the main character. It has a beautiful cover and I can't wait to get my hands on it.

 6. Favorite new author you discovered in 2014?
I read my first Gena Showalter book this year and can't believe I waited so long to check her out. I hope to read the rest of her books.

7. Best book from a genre you don’t typically read/was out of your comfort zone?
I didn't really read any books out of my comfort zone this year. Those would typically be non-fiction and it was a full fiction year. Maybe next year I will try to read a few.

 8. Most action-packed/thrilling/unputdownable book of the year?
I really enjoyed Rush by Eve Silver it's action packed and I wasn't able to put it down finished it in one sitting. I even have the next one on my kindle with every intention of getting to it sooner than later.

 9. Book You Read In 2014 That You Are Most Likely To Re-Read Next Year?
I have so many books planned to read next year I don't know if any will be on my re-read list at least not right now.

10. Favorite cover of a book you read in 2014?
I really love all of Kate Evangelista's covers but Savor is my favorite of the year. It's just beautiful. I really need to pick up a physical copy.

11. Most memorable character of 2014?
Katy & Daemon from the Lux series by Jennifer L. Armentrout because there is just something about these two. Plus I read from the 2nd one to all but the last. I'm sad to see it end and just not ready to say goodbye to my favorite couple.

 12. Most beautifully written book read in 2014?
Hands down The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern is the most beautifully written book I've ever read. Maybe if I have time I will read it again. I would love to see a movie.

13. Most Thought-Provoking/ Life-Changing Book of 2014?
I read all fiction this year so this one is hard to say. I did read quiet a few New Adults with broken main characters so maybe those count. I did enjoy The Convenience of Lies by Kimberly Castillo and even had the chance to (interview) her. (Review)

 14. Book you can’t believe you waited UNTIL 2014 to finally read?
On Dublin Street by Samantha Young - I know what your all thinking how could I wait so long. I did and jeeze I wish I hadn't because it's now one of my favorite series.

 15. Favorite Passage/Quote From A Book You Read In 2014?
The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern
Opening day, or opening night, rather, is spectacular. Every last detail is planned, and a massive crowd gathers outside the gates long before sundown. When they are finally allowed to enter, they do so wide-eyed, and as they move from tent to tent, their eyes only get wider.

Every element of the circus blends together in a wonderful coalescence. Acts that have been training in separate countries on separate continents now perform in adjacent tents, each part melding seamlessly into a whole. Each costume, each gesture, each sign on each tent is more perfect than the last.

16.Shortest & Longest Book You Read In 2014?
Hunt by Rachel Vincent 49 pages (Review)
Witch World by Christopher Pike 528 Page (Review)

 17. Book That Shocked You The Most
A Shiver of Light by Laurell K Hamilton - I waited for years for this book with a idea of how it would play out. I was shocked at how this book ended very Game of Thrones I'll kill those you love.

18. OTP OF THE YEAR (you will go down with this ship!)
My favorite would be Cami and Drake from the Touched series by Nancy Straight they are awesome together. Totally meant to be as well.

19. Favorite Non-Romantic Relationship Of The Year
So far The Husband Maker series couple (Charlotte & Angus) has remained friends but I'm secretly hoping to see have ever after in future novels.

20. Favorite Book You Read in 2014 From An Author You’ve Read Previously
Does Aurora Sky by Nikki Jefford count? I've read Northern Bites - Stakeout - Evil Red - Bad Blood all this year which I loved.
21. Best Book You Read In 2014 That You Read Based SOLELY On A Recommendation From Somebody Else/Peer Pressure:
A friend recommended that I check out Amelia Atwater-Rhodes series Den of Shadows. So far I've read the first - In the Forests of the Night. It's not bad.

22. Newest fictional crush from a book you read in 2014?

Brownies and Broomsticks by Baily Cates was a hoot. It was defiantly the most fun novel I read this year.

26. Book That Made You Cry Or Nearly Cry in 2014?
Wrecked by Alyssa Rose Ivy - This one was tears of happiness.

27. Hidden Gem Of The Year?
Songbird by Jaymin Eve - This author was new to me and I didn't expect a whole lot what I found was a captivating story.

28. Book That Crushed Your Soul?
Strike; The Returning Sunrise by Charlie Wood - This series ended and it breaks my heart because it's not my typical read but I really enjoyed it. I keep hoping that the author will change his mind.

29. Most Unique Book You Read In 2014?
Peeps by Scott Westerefeld - This one was interesting and I think the most unique out of all the books I've read this year. I still giggle when I hear peeps.

30. Book That Made You The Most Mad (doesn’t necessarily mean you didn’t like it)?
I don't really have a book that made me mad but after finishing Tempting Fate by April White

  1. Wow, what a cool topic. I'll have to do this next year. We seemed to have the opposite experience this year. I spent almost all my time rereading books that I barely red anything new. I reread forty books and only finished 18 new books so far.

    2. Same thing happened with me with Outlander. I checked out the television show and fell madly in love, but the book was slow paced and I moved on.

    7. Good to know it's a good reed. Rush has been on my TBR for a while, love the calendar.

Mmm, maybe I'll give The Night Circus another go. I felt the magic, but at the time the pace wasn't fast enough and I moved on. But everyone raves about it so much.

Added The Girl at Midnight to my TBR; OMG the cover!!!!

  2. I'm loving reading the answers to the survey, I've found so many great new books to add to my TBR this way. Congrats on reading 125 books, that's incredible!!! :) I'm happy to hear great things about The School for Good and Evil, I'm planning to read that one myself. I read the first two Lux books but didn't get further then that, have recently got all the others and plan to do a binge read next year. Great answers :) I recently did the survey myself, which you can find here if you want to check it out.
