Synopsis
The circus arrives without warning. No announcements precede it. It is simply there, when yesterday it was not. Within the black-and-white striped canvas tents is an utterly unique experience full of breathtaking amazements. It is called Le Cirque des RĂªves, and it is only open at night.
But behind the scenes, a fierce competition is underway: a duel between two young magicians, Celia and Marco, who have been trained since childhood expressly for this purpose by their mercurial instructors. Unbeknownst to them both, this is a game in which only one can be left standing. Despite the high stakes, Celia and Marco soon tumble headfirst into love, setting off a domino effect of dangerous consequences, and leaving the lives of everyone, from the performers to the patrons, hanging in the balance.
Review
The Night Circus tells the story of two magicians each
trained by their own instructor in a different way. They have been raised as
children one by her father and the other a stranger trained in different way.
This isn’t the first time these two instructors have had a duel but it could be
the last. This time around it’s up to the man in the grey suit to make the
first move and when the children at in the teens he puts into motion the
circus.
With the help of the man in the grey suit the right
people come together to create an amazing travelling circus unlike any the
world has seen before. Only accepting the very best of the best they even hire
an illusionist who is the real deal Celia who’s only goal is to win the duel that
she’s trained her whole life for. While she as well as her competitor
manipulate the circus creating their own works and putting a part of them into
the circus. When they find out who they are dueling everything changes as they
struggle to fight the connection between them and win the duel because until it’s
over they can’t be together. Only way to end the duel is for one of them to die
which isn’t an option.
I really liked both Marco and Celia they each had a very
different childhood developing their own strengths but end up in the same
place. I wasn’t thrilled with the way Marco treated Isobel sending her off to
spy and leading the poor girl on. We also had several supporting characters
like Bailey and the twins Poppet and Widget that I really loved their story. I
also like that we get an insight into a few other characters that are involved
in the circus.
I’ve had this one on my TBR forever and when I had the chance
I suggested it to my book club who jumped at the chance to because it sounds
amazing. The Night Circus is a captivating story that draws the reader right in
from the start only letting go at the very last page. The book has it all from
action, mystery, suspense and even romance the perfect mix creating an
exceptional story. The author has created a unique story revolving around
several characters that I found myself falling in love with and connecting
with. I really enjoyed every aspect of the book from cover to cover. The Night
Circus is beautifully written such an imaginative story and because of the way
it’s written I could really imagine I was there. I honestly loved the book! The Nigh Circus is
on my To read list again in the future. I highly recommend it as a must read
for all ages.
